Soy sauce and curry powder is nice, with the veg cooked in either peanut oil or peanut butter and a little oil/butter.

My daughter recently learnt to cook sweet and sour chicken at school. Here's the recipe:
    1. Dice peppers, onion, carrot and chicken.
    2. Drain juice from a small tin of pineapple chunks into a jug and add water until it's 250ml.
    3. Add 2 tbsps of sugar, 2tbsps of vinegar, 1 tbsp of soy sauce, 1 tbsp of tomato puree and 1 tbsp of cornflour to the jug. Mix the sauce in the jug.
    4. Cook onion in oil for 2 minutes. Add diced chicken and when the outside of the chicken is cooked add sauce, vegetables and pineapple chunks.
    5. Once the meat is cooked right through, the meal is ready to serve.

Hi - I had a really really cheap veggie stir fry for tea tonight, with yellow sticker veg, value noodles, and a sachet of black bean sauce I had in the cupboard. But it would have been so much cheaper if I could have made my own sauce. I did try once, can't remember exactly what I used though I'm sure honey was involved somewhere. But it wasn't a great success.

Does anyone have any nice recipes for it? I did a search but couldn't find anything so sorry if it's already here:o

I do this one with stir fry chicken and onions/mushrooms.
assuming you put in soy sauce, garlic and ginger with the other stuff then you can make a quick sauce with a couple of tablespoons of dry sherry and cover the 'other stuff' with chicken stock either HM or made with a cube. then mix a teaspoon of cornflour with a little cold water to a cream-like consistency and slowly pour in stirring all the while. let bubble for a minute and your sauce is done.

oops - just realised I typed Tablespoon of cornflour not teaspoon! corrected now!

I do a very basic but tasty sauce with soy sauce and a few teaspoons of sugar dissolved in water. Often stir fry a bit of ginger and garlic with the veg to add to the flavour, but you can leave them out if you don't like them. I can't give you quantities as it is all by eye, taste and smell.

I use cheapy instant noodles, pour boiling water on them and leave until just slightly softened (only a couple of mins), then drain and add to the stir fry with the sauce - cook for a few more mins and they soak up loads of the extra liquid and add some starch to thicken whatever is left slightly. Works for me!
    Trust me - I'm NOT a doctor!
