Tesco stopping free plastic bags - by stealth?

I went to a Co-Op this evening and bought some stuff, and the guy on the till asked me if I wanted a bag and started using a "bag for life".
When I clocked that he charged me for it I said no I didn't want to pay.
He then got a couple of carrier bags out of a drawer under the till and re-packed my stuff in them.
I want the bags ther to use and not have to go through some ridiculous song and dance and participate in a bag tax.0 -
There is no official policy for different types of bags but I generally take into account bigger bags. I add points on based on the number of standard bags I think you have saved generally. Like many of the elderly use shopping trolleys, I will normally give 4 or 5 points in that case if they have a lot of shopping.
Plus the way bags need to be added on the tills isn't as straightforward as Tescos till system, which is why they might end up being forgotten in Sainsburys. Plus you need to give us a few seconds to add them on at the end, don't go shoving your debit/credit card in straight away if you can see the cashier is still pressing buttons on the till as it stops us from accessing the menu to add points.
Sounds like you're fairer than mostTesco will give you more points for bigger bags but when i asked in sainsburys they said it was 1 point no matter how big. I tend to use the 3 point bags in tesco which equals 12p in deals. When i use that bag in sainsburys they give me 1/2p, no wonder i rarely shop there

I've not taken any carrier bags from supermarkets this year at all (and only 2 from other places) - always take my own, a freezer bag I got free from a supermarket a few years back, and a few bags for life. These go by the front door when unpacked and then when I go shopping I pick them up and pop them in the car. I also have a little fold up one in my handbag and a couple permentantly stashed in the car just in car and various other bags for non food shopping that I've got over the years.
What annoys me is when supermarkets don't give you the extra points for using them. Have to admit to always going to the customer services in our local Sainsburys and requesting them if they haven't added them - especially when I've said how many bags I've used before handing nectar card over - if they are going to offer this incentive it needs to actually be encouraged and implemented I think.
We don't need to buy bin bags to replace the bags we aren't getting. Any food waste goes in compost bin and the only things we put in the bin that you can't just chuck in are meat related and these are wrapped in non recyclable food packaging e.g. crisp packets, bread wrappers. first. Wheelie bin goes out every 2-3 weeks (do have weekly collections here) and no problems but we don't have any pets or children, both of which I appreciate effect this.Initial Mortgage January 2024 - £160,000
