Crikey, there are a few militant anti shopping bag people here!

We re-use bags for rubbish; if we didn't then we'd have to buy more bin bags. (Oh, and the fortnightly bin collections mean we double or triple bag things to stop bugs.)

The first supermarket that stops bags loses my custom.
    And the second too.
If the third or fourth one do as well, then I'll think about it.

My local supermarkets are about a half-hour walk away, so basically that's an hour's travel to go and buy the weekly shop.
Except you couldn't carry a week's shop for a family home, so we'd have to go several times a week.
    Hmmm.

Loonytoons - when the Tesco staff remember to give green points. When I have remembered my bags, they are a !!!!!! for not giving the green points. I think if they fail, you should go to CS and get double points ;)

I always make a point of mentioning my bags at the end as i appreciate there a million different questions that need to be asked, help with packing, clubcard, days out voucher, school vouchers etc etc so i don't mind reminding them of the green points so i don't miss out. Sainsburys however are another matter, i've never got any points there  I did go to CSD once and got them added but it's really not worth the hassle for a small shop as their system is nowhere near as good as Tescos

Sylvester have you tried to take a family of four's shopping for a week home on the bus?

Just to answer your original question, no. Because I find buses dirty and smelly.

However, 2 of us have carried home around 12 medium-heavy bags before.

Admittedly I am rather large and strong, but we have a 'family' of 8 (all adults) and cannot do a whole shop in one go, and although usually the girls come with me, on above occasion, it was not so.

Yep, nectar points, but for reusing your own bags you only get 1 point per bag no matter how big and 1 point equals 2 tesco points which you then get even more for if you use against deals etc

Well as M&S have started charging for carriers, I always nip across to Argos to get one of those really strong carriers that they give away for you to put a catalogue in. They are really handy and they just have them on stands on the shopfloor for you to help themselves. When Im buying expensive M&S food I really object to having to pay for a bag.

My OH uses a rucksack and always has a couple of Bags for Life in it. I keep a carrier bag in a pocket of every coat and jacket, and one in my handbag too, so I am rarely caught out. Farm Foods ones are really good - strong, big and comfortable to carry. I admit they do give those out free though, and they are not bags for life.

Tesco are very good at adding points, in fact they often credit four points when it is obvious we have only bought enough for two bags.

If you buy Bags for Life, you only have to pay once, as they replace them free when they fall apart.

I have no objection at all to not being given free bags, but as a separate matter I do wish Aldi provided baskets as well as £1 in the slot trolleys!
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

    1 nectar point = half a penny when shopping in Sainsbury's (500 points = £2.50)

1 Tesco point = one penny when shopping in Tesco (250 points = £2.50 or £10 in deals)

When I have gone to Customer Service in Tesco because the cashier has not given me any green points (even when I've pointed out the use of my own bags), they have always only given one point for a bag.

Carry a supply of bags from all the different supermarkets, and if a shop refuses to give you any, use bags from their competitors.

People act as if eliminating plastic bags is the one thing that's going to solve all our environmental problems. Much worse are the massive free car parks that encourage driving, and the ridiculous amounts of packaging in which the goods themselves are sometimes sold...

i dont know wot all the fuss is about... wot do u mean u wont pay for a carrier bag to help the supermarket with advertising... People pay over the odds to get a piece of clothing advertising a particular brand.....i.. sportswear...Nike,..puma... etc...
    or any brand...
