Tesco stopping free plastic bags - by stealth?

Over the last few weeks, every time I have been to my local Tesco metro they have mysteriously "run out" of the large free plastic bags - although not the strong ones that they charge 9p each for. Although the staff deny it, it looks very much like they are trying to stop giving away free bags. Has anyone else noticed this?
Although I will happily support a policy of not giving away free bags, and come prepared with my own bags (eg. at M&S), I would prefer it if Tesco were upfront & open about this, so that I can arrive similarly prepared.

Both tesco's close to me ran out of ( free carrier)bags this week. I asked if they were stopping them and told no at at present, that there had been problems with deliveries. Upsy x:o

In response to the following posts, I do take my own reusable bags ( I keep them in the car boot) do not make assumptions I was only replying to the op who also uses her own bags if required. The OP's point was she would like to know in advance of the policy, she was not asking for a moral tirade

Why can't you use a reusable carrier ?
You could have a folding one (approx 50p-£1) that fits in your bag or even a string one. Failing that you could carry a carrier bag around in your bag, they can be folded up small.
Free plastic bags are a silly thing imho.

I don't think we should expect free plastic carrier bags these days. Lots of shops where I live do not provide them at all now. When you go shopping take your own bags - we need to get used to it.

when our tesco or asda run out of the free ones the give you the reusable ones for free,
i have no problems with reusable bags but im not paying to advertise the shop, if they want me to use them they should remove the shop name from the front of them or sell some with stuff on them that i would not mind advertising like jack daniels,

If i'm spending money in their store, they can provide me the resources to get my shopping home, or I simply don't shop there.

I've already been told that I can x amount of bags, regardless of how much shopping I have, and I walked out the store and went to Morrisions, who were more than happy to provide me with what I needed.

Now, if they offered me the reusable ones for free, that would be acceptable, but I won't pay money to advertise TESCO for free.

I doubt that Tesco are relying on you to advertise them. There's enough advertising all over the place already :)

I'm going to start taking my own I think. We have a cupboard FULL of Tesco bags that we use as bin-liners and other odd-job carriers... makes sense to actually use them for shopping, too! It's just remembering.

You could easily make your own bags for the few bits and bobs you get but if tesco stop the free plastic bags then its up to them, theyre not obliged to have them

It is up to you to get your shopping home.
You can buy a reusable bag, and hopefully re-use it!
If reusable bags were free people would probably end up not reusing them!
If you stop shopping at places where you get free plastic bags you may well run out of places to shop!
