    Hi all

I'm also new to all of this so would love to join the gang if possible - seems like a good support network!

I have had my letter from CCCS today to start setting up my DMP and will be sending all the info off tomorrow and start cancelling direct debits and offering my token payments. Scary stuff but I just want to get started now. However! I think I may have made a mistake! I have set up a new bank account as one of my creditors is an overdraft on my current account. The new bank are going to contact the old bank to start the switching process but now I'm worried that I may have organised that too early as obviously my current bank are going to close my account and I'll be left with no money and my DDs will not be paid! Should I contact the new bank and ask them just to open the account and I'll be in touch about switching? Do you think it's too late?! I only gave them my current account details late this afternoon so am hoping I might manage to stop them. Does anyone have any advice?

I'm also feeling very scared about what lies ahead - I am addicted to reading the posts on here but sometimes they just make me feel worse! Am I doing the right thing with my DMP?

Sorry, being pathetic but it all just seems so scary just now...

    CWSG

    Welcome CWSG!

Regarding switching accounts, ideally you want to ensure that this months DDs get paid with your salary (Supposing they go out the beginning of the month). Which should be the case this month? By the time the other bank has transferred the DDs over, which takes a week or two to be sure, you can also get the salary changed over to your new account in time for next month.

    If that makes sense...

Of course, as you say you can do the DDs yourself, which is what I did, and most of the companies wee happy to help out. Obv you want to make sure any Credit Card DDs aren't transferred and are cancelled immediately?

    Anyhoo, good luck!

  • Hello all. I've been reading this thread for a few weeks now and have finally decided to embark on a dmp. It true to say that some of the horror stories have really worried me but I realise doing nothing would be far scarier. Also the positive stuff is a real encouragment.

    Morning,

I'm still waiting for the illusive "pack" from cccs !!??!! I have started getting phone calls almost hourly from MBNA CC - some dca anyway - can never quite tell what they are saying.

Anyway, the first man that rang I politely explained the situation and gave my cccs client refernce number and he noted it and said thank you for letting them know etc and they would wait to hear ..... 30 minutes later another man rings, same company.......... good to know they don't have a clue, oh well.

Anyway, it's my borthday today and my lovely grandparents have given me £50. Should I be a good debt free wannabee or should I treat myself and the kids ?????

    humm, decisions decisions :D

Also, now I have a spanking new shiny member number - how do I create a signature ??
    Thanks again,

Afternoon all.. Hope you're all well

.. I think it's national idiot day today (probably the weather) and I'm feeling underwhelmed..

.. although Natworst are treating me like a superstar client with my STEP account and linked savings, they forgot to say i'd need a card reader... so when I bounced over my First Direct overdraft limit this morning I couldn't transfer any back to cover it! How stoopid.

Spoke to the nice lady at FD who said she'd send virgin media back their request to take my money and tell them it's too early... i then mentioned i'm on a DMP and please don't offer to extend my overdraft... suddenly no talk of fees! I've asked alliance and leicester back for all my past charges as i'm now classed as being in financial hardship.. tell me about it! We'll see what they say..

Anyone else feeling the 'no access to credit' pinch this month or is it just me? Have a spending diary and not been at all ridiculous (apart from the odd 75 quid to fix my drivers side window when some idiotic numpty decided to break into my car last friday... pinched a cereal bar and a cd...).

Eupho - if you want me to go round and sort Hitachi stoopid Capital today is the day.. i'm in the mood :rotfl:lol

    CA xxx

P.S I've not had one phone call yet... i must have given them all my old mobile number!!!

Yes, me. but I think that's because it's month one and I had a big, unexpected payout from my first wage.

I tried the spending diary, but it didn't work for me. I have a detailed budget spreadsheet instead, and that seems to be fine.

Barclays are refusing to take my DMP details over the phone, they're happy to keep walloping me with a £22 charge every 10 days. So the company are calling them to see if they'll suspend everything for 28 days while the paperwork is sent to them.

    Hi Mister Ron

I too was felt that way at the beginning - seeing other people's posts when I wasn't fully clued up on things, but now with the help of CCCS and this forum I can honestly say a massive weight has been removed from my shoulders! Yes, sometimes the budget is still a struggle (when things are problematic like cars, houses and pets!) however I can honestly say I haven't been able to keep my head this far above water in a long time!

Apart from the odd 300 phone calls from HSBC loans department (I've now got a new mobile so its not an issue any more ;) ) all has been quiet and hassle free.....you strangely begin to miss being on first name terms with the postman! Hopefully the next few years will go as smoothly and I can start my life afresh, credit card free :D

Well done on taking the first step, we're all here for you if you need to ask a question or simply to vent!
