  • Hi Everyone,

It's been a few weeks....hope you all had a lovely Christmas and warm wishes for a very happy, healthy and debt free 2010!

Made our first payment to the CCCS last week, we have officially started our DMP now, 2 acceptances out of 12 so far, 1 says it's not good enough so we are just waiting for the letter saying what they are going to do to us next :(
We are already in court early Feb because Alliance and Leicester didnt want to be on the DMP, so let's see what happens there (another thread).

Apart from Barclaycard who like to phone about once a week now (it used to be daily) the other creditors have been quiet......calm b4 the storm maybe?
Let's see. We have been receiving the usual default notices left right and centre too which I am just filing away.

So our mega long journey has begun but it is a huge relief to be dealing with the problem and I hope with some overtime and OH's self employed work picking up we can throw more money into the DMP in the next few months.

I have spent a day or 2 catching up on all the posts, warm welcome to the newbies here, you are in the right place! This board has been an absolute life saver for me when I thought it was going to be doom and gloom forever!
I enjoyed Christmas with my children so much because I knew it was all done with cash and I will have no nasty shocks this month........well, apart from the next gas bill because of the cold weather! :D

I tend to waffle so apologies for that. I hope this post finds you all well!
We will all get there one day.
Well done to everyone for getting where you are today.

    hi shandypants and welcome :)

I have just made my first DMP payment and am in the horrible being contacted by creditors phase. The support on here is amazing though, and we will all get through this. Just think, by this time 2011, we will all have reduced our debt by £££'s :j

Thats right we will!! Forgot to mention earlier, a wee word of advice to all the Newbies - keep every scrap of paper thats sent by your creditors. I know I've said it before, but the number of calls we have had by different departments of the same company!! One hand really doesn't know what the others doing.
I recycled an old folder from work that was destined for the bin. All 10 of my creditors have their own section and I downloaded a picture of wads of cash to stick on the tatty front. No more 'badmin" from ttf!!:A

Really hoping all goes well for everyone just starting on the DMP road.
It is really scary at the start, but you won't look back without knowing you have done the right thing. All this has changed my life. I honestly don't know what we were doing with our money before. Now shopping is a challenge I actually enjoy, and I LOVE the Old style money saving tips thread on here!!

Have a great weekend! (Only 2 weeks left in Jan!) I got paid on 19th Dec, a lifetime ago!!!

  • Hi all,

I have been perusing the boards for far to long now, and shuffling debt around pretending i can pay it off, when i can't. The final straw has come when my partner has just been posted abroad with work and i am going to go with him. The only downside is that i am having to take a career break which will mean no salary for 3 months before i get a job. On the upside it means i have got my !!!! in gear and contacted the CCCS, I have filled in my forms and am putting my DMP notification forms in the post on Monday morning.

Due to my reduced salary my payments will only be £188 pr month for 4 creditors and my debt will take 11 years to pay off. OMG:eek: But once i get a job i'm going to at least double the payment and get that debt down!!

Thank you for the advice that goes on here. I have a feeling i'm going to be posting alot more until i get a job. Fingers crossed my creditors will accept my the offers i've informed all of them already and hopefully will be sending things to the right addresses.

Good luck to all, lets hope 2010 is the year for us DFW.

Hi everyone i need some help. I have a wedding that i need to pay off by May (£5500), and i have two credit cards which I am trying to pay off a bit from the credit cards and also save at the same time. My Virgin CC has a rate of 1.9% till June 2010 and the Halifax CC has three rates £5940 at 5.94% lifetime, £1200 at 22%
    £2800 at 0% till june/july 2010.

At the moment I am trying to save up the £5500 so that i don't have to put this onto a credit card when May comes. What do people think i should do?

Thought that I had it all storted out then a phone call back to square1 got lots of other stress at the minute. But reading this forum keeps me going it is really scaring me this process. Having to keep it secret from the OH is making it worse sorry to let off steam but here is the only place that I feel I can

No way of telling the OH then? I believe a few on here were in the same boat but were relieved when they unburdened themselves.

How bad was the phonecall? Don't let them get to you...

    Dear All

We are now into our third year of our DMP. Our lives have returned to normal [pre credit cards!!!] and most of the time we forget all about the DMP.
Wishing all those starting out on this journey all the best for 2010, life will return to normal and there is light at the end of the tunnel;)
  • I feel like giving up already, after egg being so 'nice' accepting £1 token payments and telling me interest and charges would be stopped for 30 days guess what??? They have slapped a £16 'unpaid direct debit charge' on the account!!! I would'nt mind but the direct debit was cancelled not unpaid which they obviously knew about because I phoned them and told them and they have been bombarding me with letters and e mails informing me it had been cancelled  Northern Rock have charged £30 for each loan  This is a great start is'nt it? I have already spoken to cccs a couple of days ago to alter dmp payment slightly so now it will take 15 years to pay off the debt. This is just awful, perhaps an iva is the way forward?? All I ever think about is this mess, it's all we ever talk about anymore, and we are potentially faced with ccj's, charging orders anyway. Whats the point?
