    Dear Crispy conflake
at the beginning of our DMP we had three months of phone calls , charges and interest slapped on by some of our more zealous creditors.I too wondered if it was worth all the hassle [some people have a smooth ride from day one on DMP by the way!]. However I can honestly say that our lives are now transformed. We felt at first that our whole lives had been consumed by debt and it was all that we ever spoke about, luckily we came through that phase and moved on.
Our original DFD was 2019 , however this has now been reduced to 2013.

    Good luck x

Just catching up with the very many messages posted from yesterday or so. Such a lot from very newbies. After Christmas/New Year is obviously the critical 'light-bulb' time of the year for many.
I am getting the feeling of panic and also despondency from so many of you. Please try not to stress and keep yourselves strong (so much easier said than done I know!) It takes a while for a DMP to 'settle in' and you will get all sorts of c**p thrown at you from creditors whilst they try to put the frightners on you. Stand firm - you know your budget and you know you are doing the very best you can. It honestly does get better, and a DMP becomes something you learn to live with.
Keep coming back here for the help and  for taking the first steps!

Please be aware that at the beginning the creditors probably think you're not paying your debts, hence why they slap the charges on (despite you saying you're on a DMP). Otherwise they may realise you're going on a DMP and want to squeeze a bit more money out of you.

An IVA is an alternative, however, ALL creditors have to accept it (And there's no guarantee that they will), otherwise it won't go ahead. Neither option is ideal, but compared to the alternative, they are both better.

Just stick with it, it does get easier, and be happy in the knowledge (I forget how many times I've said this!) that you will have a Debt Free Date in sight, and I for one when faced with banks offering me credit in the future - will be able to tell them where they can stick it. :)

Thats right we will!! Forgot to mention earlier, a wee word of advice to all the Newbies - keep every scrap of paper thats sent by your creditors. I know I've said it before, but the number of calls we have had by different departments of the same company!! One hand really doesn't know what the others doing.
I recycled an old folder from work that was destined for the bin. All 10 of my creditors have their own section and I downloaded a picture of wads of cash to stick on the tatty front. No more 'badmin" from ttf!!:A

Really hoping all goes well for everyone just starting on the DMP road.
It is really scary at the start, but you won't look back without knowing you have done the right thing. All this has changed my life. I honestly don't know what we were doing with our money before. Now shopping is a challenge I actually enjoy, and I LOVE the Old style money saving tips thread on here!!

Have a great weekend! (Only 2 weeks left in Jan!) I got paid on 19th Dec, a lifetime ago!!!

    ttf x

    YooHoo TF :hello:
So glad to hear all going well with you. Hope your sprouts were done at Christmas after their prolonged cooking ;)
Totally agree with you about keeping all the paperwork. A very valuable lesson. Might seem like a chore now but very necessary. It may come back to bite you later on!
And by the way what does a 'wad' look like please? I'm model myself on the Queen and never have cash :rotfl:

'If only I had a pound for every time I've said this' thinks ianmak! ;) But it's so right.
Tis true a DFD is good even though it might seem so far away at the moment.
And should we start a DMP poll for favourite orifices for banks/creditors 'to stick it' in our debt free future??? :rotfl:

I am sat here crying, i am in debt up to my eyeballs and am trying my best, today CL finance have issued a Warrant of Execution to take goods, total to pay £200ish and o/s £7,000 ish. What do i do, i think its for EGG CC.

Can someone advise me what to do, i cant afford the £200 ish in one go. what do i do. I tried to call the number on the letter.

I have looked at the reasons behind a WoE and it says you have to have defaulted on an agreed amount or missed 2 payments. I havent had an agreed repayment amount from what i can remember.

I know someone on here will advise, i am desperate. The furniture isnt mine its my ex partners, but i cant prove it.

Sorry if i sound desperate but i am..

I feel like giving up already, after egg being so 'nice' accepting £1 token payments and telling me interest and charges would be stopped for 30 days guess what??? They have slapped a £16 'unpaid direct debit charge' on the account!!! I would'nt mind but the direct debit was cancelled not unpaid which they obviously knew about because I phoned them and told them and they have been bombarding me with letters and e mails informing me it had been cancelled  Northern Rock have charged £30 for each loan  This is a great start is'nt it? I have already spoken to cccs a couple of days ago to alter dmp payment slightly so now it will take 15 years to pay off the debt. This is just awful, perhaps an iva is the way forward?? All I ever think about is this mess, it's all we ever talk about anymore, and we are potentially faced with ccj's, charging orders anyway. Whats the point?

    Hi Crispy cornflake,

Please try not to panic and let it get on top of you. It is really difficult at first but honestly it does get easier, ask anyone who is a couple of months down the road. Just remember the reason you are doing this. It is a kick when they keep whacking the charges on when you have tried to keep them informed of what you are doing in your efforts to get yourself out of debt. The thing to remember is that you have sought help because you can no longer meet your repayments, if you hadn't taken these steps then you still wouldn't be meeting your repayments and they would still be whacking on the charges. You are doing the right thing and in time I'm sure you will realise that too. Take care.

  • My lovely DH took pity on me being so stressed out by the constant call centre calls, and has bought a Tru-call unit for our phone line from Amazon. Hopefully this will mean an end to the barrage of calls, and I can speak to them when necessary ON MY TERMS. It should be arriving on Monday :D
