  • Well, as I said, I'm not boring everyone with Irish sayings. I'd rather quote a brilliant Englishman, Winston Churchill, who said, "When you are going through Hell, Keep going". I think that might just help us all.

Very well said :T If we all just hang in there, no matter what life throws at us next - we'll deal with it and come out fighting.

"You know it makes sense" er... that was Del Boy.

I can't keep up the pretense of being well-read any longer. Sorry!
You're right. Of course we will come out fighting!

  • Ditto from me too Twitty, so sorry to hear what's happened.
We are all here for you.
The tooth fairy please please post some of your Irish sayings!
I'm beginning to make notes of quite a few that I like and when I have a wobbly moment I get my notebook out and read them.
Every little bit helps on this rocky journey we are on.

  • :rotfl:Well I did my usual monthly saddo thing this morning. I know that my CCCS statement doesnt update until 26th so I always get up a bit earlier so I can have a look before getting ready to go to work.

It was a bit special this month as it is the first month of increased payments and I was surprised how it has increased my payments, oh and knocked 14 mnths of my dfd:D

Things are all quiet on the western front, as they say! Creditors are still being a little sporadic on when they are adding interest but on the whole they have either stopped or reduced. Even Barclays as my biggest creditor seem to be playing fair, as I have kept my banking with them ableit a basic account but think they realise there is no point doing anything becuase of the secured loan they gave us 3 yrs ago means our house is in severe negative equity:eek:

One thing I would say is I have my shopping money in a natwest step account and everytime I go in there to put cash in I get asked if I want to upgrade becuase my emergency fund is quite healthy and they must think I am bonkers when I try to exaplin it is that way for a reason. Next time perhaps I will say I'm on a DMP and that will keep them quiet!!!!

Just wanted to give everyone a little update from me and next month I will be under the £40K month. Yay! This is the most I have ever paid off my debt since starting work, so as long as nothing bites me on the bottom I can continue with my dream! (see signature)

    Best wishes all sx :A

LMS - So sorry to hear about your cat, I've had mice in the house, and if you were to use poison to get rid, how many people consider the side effects?

Twitty - Sorry to hear about your troubles too, at least you've got the money problems to concentrate on. :o And I'm being semi serious about that, at least it'll take your mind off the other stuff.

  • Morning peoples!

    Just a quickie - oo-er!!

I have my yearly review with Payplan next week at some point, no changes there but I am going to have to change my payment date as I start a new job in 2 weeks and for some bizarre reason they pay on the 10th of the month!

My question is: Payplan are not that great at changing payment dates and keeping to the agreed timings - should I sack them off and pay my 3 credit cards directly?

Also, as I'm leving work I've accrued holiday pay. Woo bonus! BUT I'd like to set up another bank account that I can send money to each month for me to have some 'spending money' - I have a savings acount that is usually empty but I want to keep this for any excess I can save.

I can then leave my cuurrent account that my wages go into and my savings account well alone and let them tick over.

Can someone advise of a nice simple account with a debit card though as I find it very annoying having to get £10 when you only need £4.95!

    Thanks,

    Happy Friday :)

Ooo P.S. Sorry about your cat LMS (but well done on the job!)

  • Morning All,

Another week over......sounds like it's been quiet on the letters/calls front.
D-Day for us today. Finally my council has given us our monthly payment for our arrears which we need to pay until April. It's a bit high but I think we can just about start our DMP......psyching myself up for the phone call to the CCCS shortly, having a free cup of tea (sent off for a pack of free 10- clipper tea bags so get to that site and sign up :), then I will get my little one from Nursery then phone.
Hopefully we can start the DMP, it has been a bit touch and go but once our mortgage goes down a bit in January that will make a huge difference.

I have felt like I'm in limbo this past month............you know what it's like, good days and bad...but let's stay positive....2010 will be the year for all of us! :T:beer:

Thanks, We've not had mice in the house but we do see a lot of them around here as we live facing onto a golf course (how I worry for my windows!) and a big forest so it's mouse (and squirrel) galore. Lola was always hunting mice. I think it is the owner of the golf course who has been poisoning the mice - thus costing the life of my little cat. Sometimes, people just do not think of the consequences.

Northstar - thank goodness youfinally got your Council Tax figure! I too am paying quite a high payment to arrears, also until April. At the time they told me the payment I said it was way too high because come April (new Council Tax year) I wouldn't be able to pay it - but the woman assured me they will review and reduce the amount to the arrears in April, so I feel better for that. Fingers crossed for you getting your 1st Dec start date then! We have some payments (mortgage and car) which are due to reduce in the first half of next year - so will hopefully boost our DMP payment.

Brussel for a simple account try NatWest - I opened a new basic account with them and got a Visa Debit card (better than Electron which not everyone takes). It was opeend quickly without having to faff about taking ID to the branch etc too, added bonus!

smcshane - glad to see it's all ticking over nicely for you! I did the same saddo thing and checked my CCCS statement the very day it appeared online, as it is my first month of seeing payments there as my DMP only started on nov 1st, it was such a weight off my mind to see it! The only thing that concerned me slightly is I logged into Fredrickson (Tesco card) and there are no payments showing as received there, but it says on CCCS they paid them, so I shall assume they did unless I hear otherwise. I'm sure they'll be quick to tell me if they didn't get paid. :rotfl:

We've been getting correspondence from our creditors (re the self DMP) asking for proof of our income, bank statements, info on our expenses and other debts. So I will be putting together a letter this weekend to send out with next months payment for all of them, with a general "incoming/outgoing" sheet, so they can see where it's all going. As our current bank account is in MY name, and all the debts are in DH's name, I will not be sending them my bank statements. We don't have a problem sending them a copy of his paystub, however, I will make sure any info regarding where it is deposited is blacked out so they can't read it. They are also asking for our phone number and for us to call them. THAT isn't going to happen. I will also be putting in the letters that we wish contact ONLY by letter/post in writing, no contact by phone. And I will also be requesting again that they stop any extra charges and interest. I noticed that some of them have stated they will stop interest and charges once we send a reference number from an "approved credit management company" to them. Hmmm.... I will continue to push ahead with this on a self-managed plan and continue to send them a monthly letter with the payment stating there are no current updates, until there are, of course. We should be able to up the monthly payment just a little in March, but I won't say that specifically until then. I plan on telling them we will be reviewing the situation in February, and that we will update them immediately afterwards so they are kept abreast of the situation. I figure if we are up front with them about it all, and keep in touch regularly, then they may be less snarky about it all. (they may still be that way, but at least I can try to make it less dreadful, right?)

DH gets a bit stressed and wants to reply IMMEDIATELY (with practically a 24hour turnaround) every time we get a letter from a creditor. But I've told him that I am putting aside two days a week to work on the DMP stuff, and that's it! I'm not living/breathing correspondence with creditors every single day at the drop of a hat. I know it sounds silly, but it's much easier for me to deal with the stress if I can do the correspondence at one time, then put it aside for a few days. Otherwise you feel like you're on edge ALL the time! Does that make sense?
