Hiya, Can I ask a question?? I have just received my Barclaycard statement and it says that my debt has been passed to Mercers?? And I need to call them immediatly...........do I need to to do this or will Barclaycard pass it on to them that I am with Payplan, not that Barclaycard actually sent any acknowledgment of the Payplan letters but just a bit unsure of what to do???

    Hi ya,

I also have a Barclaycard and they passed me over to Mercers.....dont phone!!! Wait for the letters to come and deal with them then. Dont get them on the phone, they just want to pressure you into paying them more money than you may be able to pay. I panicked when I first heard from Mercers, they still ring me now, texts everything.

Mercers and Barclaycard are the same. Probably a different person different desk but when the letters start coming, check the post code and phone number......same as Barclaycard.

Payplan will know, they know I am sure that Mercers is Barclaycard.
    All the best!

    Hi
Thanks so much for all your messages of support. I am trying to pck myself up and carry on but my family are a 200 mile round trip away, and as I'm sure I've mentioned before my Mother is extremely elderly and very upset by it all.
Know I'll come through this but it has so knocked me back. It was a warm and caring relationship then wham! - nothing. Trying to put it down to him having a mid-life crisis.
What with my light-bulb moment in April.the start of my DMP, a slipped disc and the the break up of my long standing relationship this sure hasn't been the best year ever - can only keep hanging on and hope for better things.

So sorry again Twitty........hang in there, 2009 is almost up, 2010 will be the year for us all.

    Be gentle with yourself

Mercers is the same company as Barclaycard, they just get involved to try and bully you into paying them more money than you can afford, don't be intimidated by them! Its probably worth ringing them once and making sure they have your DMP reference and everyone on their system although as they work off of the same system as Barclaycard they should know about. Good luck, i hope they accept your offer of payment and that you don't end up on the same rollercoaster as me and many others on here.

I have been having a nightmare with Barclaycard/Mercers since starting my DMP with Payplan in August, they say that the payments that i can afford are less than they can accept, therefore as they haven't actually agreed to reduced payments from me they keep hassling, phonecalls, text messages, letters etc etc. Talking to them doesn't seem to do much good, you just end up on a merry-go-round of repeating yourself and getting nowhere. I ended up putting a letter of complaint into them about the volume of calls they were making (upto 8 a day at one point) and saying that i would only accept written communication from them which seems to have slowed the calls down, i did receive a call tonight but as soon as i told the women that i'd already put a complaint in and requested all communication in writing she went away. I have been making a log of the time, date and telephone number of all their calls for the past 2 weeks and will continute to do until they stop being so awkward.

I have 2 accounts with Barclaycard, one is still being looked after by Mercers but today i received a letter from Calder Collection Agency regarding my other account, no introduction to say that they are now dealing with my account or anything, just the usual, pay within the next 7 days or else rubbish. I thought that account must have been sold on until I noticed that Calder are actually Mercers in disguise - although i must say not a very convincing one as the layout of the letter is identical to Mercers, yet another ploy on their behalf to scare me into giving them money i don't have.

Anyway i've done them a letter, yet again informing them what i've already told Mercers and Barclaycard, that i don't "do" phonecalls and also refering them to my Payplan DMP, along with the "doorstep callers" template from here, just incase they do decide to carry through their threats. I'll also have a copy of that letter printed and waiting incase anyone does decide to call at any point, they can then turn straight round and walk away with the letter in hand and nothing more! :rotfl:

All fun and games but i'm no longer allowing them to intimidate me.
  • Hi all
I'm new to this so forgive me if its in the wrong section. My wife and I have a DMP with CCCS since November 08 and things have been going fairly well so far.

We have been in and out of overdraft with Natwest since 1988 (I know 20yrs till LBM). Our original overdraft was for about £100 back in 1989, that amount slowly crept up. But when we moved house in 2001 we temporarily had a large balance in our account, at that time Natwest sent a letter saying that they had upped our overdraft to £4700. Never thought we would use it but once again started using it and in no time at all was up to the limit. After starting the DMP in Nov 08 Natwest said they would accept reduced payments. and we started making payments, several months later Natwest solicitors then tried to take us to court for the full amount, after showing them the letter accepting the DMP they stopped all court action. We have been making payments ever since and have had no further contact from them until last week. We got a call from Irwin Mitchell asking for full payment of £5161, when we told them we were with CCCS they said that the period of reduced payment had ended and they wanted full payment or final settlement of £3000 if not they would take us to court. when asked about the higher balance they said that we were not paying enough to cover the interest, I thought the interest had been frozen, but cant find any letters stating it. This week we have received court papers but only in my wifes name(it has always been a joint account).

What I would like to know is, I have read a bit about proving the debt to be unenforcable by asking for a CCA. We may have signed one in 1989 but only for about £100. We definately didnt sign one for £4700. Are overdrafts treated the same as loans with respect to CCA. Should we feel guilty about possibly getting the debt wiped out if they cant provide a signed CCA.

    Any advice would be welcomed

    Hi emmahoyles,

I'm in the same position as you, good to know Im not fighting Barclaycard alone but sorry to hear you are having the same harrassment!
My last statement showed Calder too....a bit of investigating and I also found out it is still Barclaycard. The texts and calls are coming but I'm ignoring them now apart from 1 that my daughter picked up by mistake then I had to take it, same old pay up blah blah to which I replied 'you have the CCCS info, DMP is starting, you have a letter requesting no calls, I have kept logs of times etc. To which the bloke on the phone got shirty and I just said good bye and hung up.
Last Sunday they phoned at 9am, 3 times during the day and then at 7pm and 8.30pm. Unbelievable. I will be so glad to see the back of them!

  • Not sure if anyone can help me with this but I currently have a DMP where I am charged 20% each month in fees.

Does anyone know if I can change over and if there are any companies that dont charge fees - meaning my debts are paid off quicker?

    Thanks

Hiya Antoinette1976 there are lots of places out there that will do the same but wont charge you the 20% meaning all your money goes towards your debts. The main ones are the CCS and Payplan there are links at the start of these threads. I am with the CCCS and they have been great.

    Good luck
Proud to be dealing with my debts :j:j
