  • OMG!! Halifax personal loans have just sent me a letter re a £10 charge for a 'phone call. Cheeky !!!!!!s - I won't speak to them next time. If they'd told me that speaking to them was going to cost ME money I wouldn't have bothered.

£10 just to tell them my CCCS reference number - which they already had.

  • I'd just like some advise if i can please.

I started my DMP back in July with PayPlan. It was tough going for the first couple of months with all of my creditors still trying to contact me. Everything seems to have settled down now and 99% of the people I owe seem to have accepted the offers and i've not heard anything from them since however i am having quite a bit of trouble with Barclaycard. I have 2 visa card accounts with them (one of which used to be a Morgan Stanley account which they took over) I owe the least amount of money on these two accounts and therefore their offers are quite low, one is around the £4 a month mark and the other about £3. Basically they have passed my details onto Mercers Debt recovery which is still part of their group but they are refusing my offers of payment as they are under their minimum acceptance level of £5. I've spoken to them on numerous occasions and explained that i am paying Payplan all i can afford and as the payments are split fairly between all of my creditors i can't just up my offer to them without giving everyone more - to take their payments up to the £5 they want i'd end up paying at least another £70 a month into my plan which i just cant afford. They are currently phoning me between 3-5 times a day and sending text messages saying that legal proceedings could be started if i don't ring them but everytime i do speak to them we go round the same merry-go-round of conversation - they want more cash and i dont have it! So its got to the point now where i have stopped answering their calls. They also send letters saying that they'll instruct someone to call at the house to discuss the matter which i really don't want - theres nothing else i can say to them and the last thing i want is someone trying to bully me on my own doorstep! Payplan say that hopefully they'll sell my account onto another local debt collection agency but surely thats just going to be someone a bit closer to me trying to get me to pay money i don't have, I just can't see a way out of this situation which is a shame because my DMP is going so well apart from this.

I just wondered if anyone else had been in this position with Barclaycard or any other creditor and if they had any tips/advise to stop them from hassling me all the time or any possible solution.

    Thanks

    Hiya Emma,

some creditors can be a pain in the !!!!!!! Having similar problems with FLM loans see my previous posts. All i can say is stick to your guns as you say you cant pay what you dont have dont feel pressurised into paying more. Write to Mercers/Barclaycardand request all ocntact to be thru post although I have to say FLM have ignored are requests to do this one more txt/phone call and its off to Trading Standards with!!!! Chin up Emma you have plenty of support on here i find it amazing how strangers can help strangers on here gives you hope for mankind after all!!!

    Hi Emma,

I can sympathise totally because I am having the exact same thing with Barclaycard/Mercers.
They possibly wont send anyone, it is just another ploy to pressure you into giving them more money. I used to take the calls and had the same merrygoround conversation, the woman/man were talking like parrots, yuo have this debt blah blah, it needs to be paid blah blah, legal proceedings blah blah, the texts are threatening 'Unless you call now legal proceedings may begin......'may' being the operative word.
Ignore all calls, dont upset yourself by talking to them.
Get that letter in the post asap saying that all contact must be in writing and again refer them to you DMP company.
Throw them the harrassment line too.

I'm up to my eyes with them too, I have toughened up a lot in the last few weeks, only since I came here. I wish I had found this fantastic place sooner!

Hang in there, write anytime, I understand, we all do, and it really helps to know that you arent the only one who is being hounded by Barclaycard/Mercers.
    Keep in touch

  • Thank you, least its not just me thats having issues with them, luckily the only telephone number Barclaycard/Mercers have for me is my mobile so its easy enough to see who's calling, just annoying having the phone ringing every couple of hours, so i end up putting it onto silent only to end up missing people i actually want to talk to!

I'll hunt out the template for that letter and get it sent of ASAP, not that i think it will do any good, they seem to like wasting their time, effort and money on talking to my voicemail.

  • Hello Everyone,,
One month into a self managed DMP using templates and phone advise from national debtline. 4 from 10 creditors accepted the reduced payments so far, biggest pain being HSBC who are threating the legal route. Headache for me is I am doing a combined DMP with my partner but none of the debt is combined but the cashplan budget sheet is in my name as the main income earner which seems to confuse some of the creditors.
Anyone got advise on way to handle this or do we just keep sending the letters until they get the message.

Same with me, mobile on silent pretty much all the time, we have just changed to a hub phone so we have a new number for close friends/family only and the home phone is now.....silent. I check it every few days. ;)
I dont need my mobile for work or anything like that so keeping it silent keeps my blood pressure and pulse rate relatively low.

Let them waste their time, just make sure yours isnt being wasted by talking to them. Keep up with your set payments and it will be fine. Hard to go through but there is always loads of support here. I would be lost without my new friends here!
    Thanks again everyone!
