Instead of running chkdsk try typing this in the command prompt

    sfc /scannow

Try this in Start....Run.. cmd initially. If that doesn't work try running it in Safe Mode with Command Prompt. Definitely sounds like your hard disc is giving you problems though.

Just did this and might have got somewhere at last. Went through safe mode and it completed a verification phase of system scan 100%. It said:

Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired. Details are included in the CBS.Log winder\Logs\CBS\CBS.log

It then gave me a location for this file. Does this mean everything should be OK now?

No luck. Still says Autochk cannot be run as system is RAW and also would not allow me to restore system.

Whilst logged on clicked 'Accessories' 'Run' entered chkdsk /f /r y rebooted - got msg autochk cannot run because system is RAW. When logged back on went to Control Panel to try to restore system - would not allow me to check the box next to the operating system - said had corrupt files. Clicked both boxes 'fix file system errors' and 'scan for and attempt recovery' then 'Start' - nothing happens.

    hi there

how many partitions do u have? or run chkdsk /f /r c:

very strange that chkdsk is trying to run from an OS yet target a RAW (unpartitioned / unformated) partition

    Just found this through Google:

"Re: PC with "healthy" NTFS drive but CHKDSK reports RAW
Turns out it was a malware infestation. McAfee, MultiBytes AntiMalware and Super AntiSpyware eventually straightened it out."

Are all of these free anti-virus software - apart from McAfee?
