I tried pressing F8 again on start up and a quick msg flashed up, the gist of which is : The type of system is RAW and cannot run chkdsk on this system. Anyone know what this means pls?0

Can you boot into Windows at all now ? RAW suggests that the system maybe isn't recognising the formatting of your hard drive.0

hi there
can u actually boot into this system
sounds like the hard drive is going south but that could be down to a lot of things and maybe not the hard drive itself
have u thouroughly scanned this system for viruses / spyware / malware etc

Have run the CCleaner and deleted the files it found. Cannot run my own 'Virgin' Broadband anti-virus because it crashes after 3%. Should I try re-downloading 'Virgin' anti-virus?
The computer appears to be working OK in most programs apart from IE7 and Firefox (which has now been uninstalled) tried to reinstall Firefox but it crashed.0 -

Instead of running chkdsk try typing this in the command prompt
sfc /scannow
Try this in Start....Run.. cmd initially. If that doesn't work try running it in Safe Mode with Command Prompt. Definitely sounds like your hard disc is giving you problems though.0 -
