The weetabix from Lidle however were vile. Like flattened pieces of cardboard
:money:This is DEFINITELY the best way to deal with brand snobbery IMO. No matter what we say, we DO tend to let our eyes influence our tastebuds. Like I said earlier, it's best to do this and see if there is any reaction. If there isn't, just mention what's been occurring after a week or so. If they haven't noticed a difference then their previous argument (the brand names taste so much better) is shot to pieces.Call me Carmine....

What about the Aldi-branded products? The packaging of most of their products are such blatant ripp-off copies of the real-deal, you probably couldnt tell the difference if you were squinting!
Suppose that's why they are so similar: to fool the short sighted consumer into thinking they have bought Kelloggs, weetabix etc etcProfit=sanity

LOL. Asda are pretty infamous for this sort of thing as well. Personally, I have now come to the realisation (it's taken me far too long, BTW) that I'm no longer prepared to pay a premium for these brand names in order for them to use my money to advertise the product. When you think about it, it's daft, really, isn't it?Call me Carmine....

I never buy Kellogs Crunchy Nut Cornflakes and have found all 4 main supermarkets own brand is really good and nobody can tell. Asda own brand shreddies, coco-pops are IMO indistinguishable from brands. My children also like their choco-hoops and honey hoops - like cheerios.
Tried Sainsburys own instant porridge (syrup flavour) and kids wouldn't touch it, so I tried it and realised why - yeuch. Asda own is different to oatsosimple (I can tell the difference) but is fine.
all the above are the own brand but not the value range - haven't tried any of those yet.0 -
DH used to have the Tesco "discount brand" weetabix, until our Tesco Extra took it off the shelves. He now just has the own brand (Value is just a step too far for him).
I have the Value branflakes - 70p a box! :j :j Tastes just as good as Kelloggs and the own brand.Sealed Pot Challenge #021 #8 975.71 #9 £881.44 #10 £961.13 #11 £782.13 #12 £741.83 #13 £2135.22 #14 £895.53 #15 £1240.40 #16 £1805.87 #17 £1820.01 declared0 -
The Co-op's own brand of Fruit & Fibre is the best imho - much nicer than any other supermarket's own brand and even Kellogs - more fruit.Nothing is so fatiguing as the eternal hanging on of an uncompleted task. William James0

I often buy Tesco's Discount Brand Country Barn cornflakes (about 79p I think) and I actually like them better than a lot of the big brands. They seem to be a lot thicker that most other cornflakes. I tried Sainsbury's own brand cornflakes and they were horrible! Wouldn't buy them again unless I'm going to bake with them!0

In my quest to save money, and manage a month without running out of food i want to cut back on the amount we spend on cereals.I generally buy Morrisons own brand but name brand when it's on offer.
OH eats cereals as snacks/supper aswell as breakfast so he can get through it! I buy the Coco Pops when they're on offer £2 for the big box.
I bought some Weetabix substitute yesterday friom Asda - 75p for 36, "Sunny Bisk" and they are foul. OH won't eat Morrisons' version of Rice Krispies (says they're too soggy) and doubtful he'd entertain the idea of shops own Coco Pops.
Mr. Fire Fox is very similar - he eats cereal as snacks as much as breakfast, likes to have a wide selection in stock and is fussy with brands. One of my tricks for saving money is to buy the more filling cereals frequently - as much wholegrain and as little air in the product as possible!
We always have in stock own brand fruit'n'fibre (£1 for a large box), a variant of Shredded Wheat and a variant of Weetabix. Cheerios and Shreddies also seem to last longer than Coco Pops and Rice Krispies. I also enjoy the own brand crunchy oat cereals which, again, is pretty filling.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -
Tesco Value BranFlakes. 70p a box. Yummy.
I asked otherhalf to get me branflakes. Asked him to get me the Tesco ones not thinking for one moment he would get the cheapest. Really thought I would be eatting cardboard but to be honest I wouldn't go back to any other brand!:rotfl: l love this site!! :rotfl:0 -
