Doggie poo - what do YOU do?

Littleoldme, that is something i like to hear. I wish they did that here.
Thank you for all of your replies - i was really hoping to get away from the plastic bags but it looks like there is little other choice. I have researched and it seems fine with todays waste water system to flush, prob best on the environment too - goverment advice is flush it or bag it and bin so i have read.
I always pick up, everywhere if they go out be it in the woods, by fields or on the beach (the latter is the one i don't like dogs going on most). My only reason i let them 'go' out in the garden as i said there are very few doggy bins here and i dont like carrying doggy poo about, also they tend to poo in the morning and OH is usually at work (taking two dogs and a LO out is a pain so i usually wait till he's home and we all take a stroll together - nicer that way too). And our garden is always kept clear of doggy poos, i have a little one who loves the garden so i'm very conscious of keeping it clean and picking up straight after they go.
I might just get over the fact of picking it up in tissue and flushing - i dont know why but i dont mind picking it up in a doggy bag but not in tissue, lol, but you should see my OH, plastic gloves AND doggy bag and picks up with arms outstretched to keep as far away from it as poss, haha!
I'll stick to the plastics if we are out but they rarely go then (but i too have a few doggy bags stuffed in every bag/pocket just in case lol). I do hate the idea of running the poos through the house too, especially as i have to come through the kitchen to get to the loo- eww, lol, just makes me cringe even though really thinking about it there isnt anything wrong there.
Anyway - just trying to be greener in as many ways as poss.

For anyone whos dogs poo like crazy - try switching to JWB, its cut ours down drastically as there must be less 'waste' or 'filling out' product in it - now i don't dread their toilet time.
Lol - this is an amusing thread in a weird way, haha!Mummy of 3 lovely munchkins :smileyhea0 -
Two things:
First, whatever did we do years ago? I seem to recall there was none of all this picking up poo. You would train your dog to do it just on the other side of the kerb so it was doing it in the road, then I suppose the road sweepers would get it up.
Alternatively, you would train the dog to go to a tree. As for on fields etc, I can't remember what would happen to that (being a mere child of the sixties) but I definitely remember we didn't go around with bags and shovels, and there was none of the fuss like today, nor do I recall seeing a higher incident of diseases.
Second, We had one of the dog bins you bury underneath. What a palaver. We struggled to dig deep enough to set it in there. Then we found that the poo never dissolved as quick as it said on the chemical bottle, even allowing that it took longer in colder weather than hot. Even in the hot weather it didn't seem to dissolve very quick. Therefore in the end it was a horrible job as everytime we opened the lid to put some in, there was all the other stuff floating on top. (Gross I know). In addition, every now again you were supposed to pour a bucket or two of water in to help it on its way. The smell was horrendous. Like others, it ended up not being used as became embarrassing.0 -
this thread has made me chuckle:rotfl:
i have one dog (greyhound) and she mainly poos in the garden, which i leave til it's dried out a bit then bag and bin. i do the same if she goes when out walking, although i often bring the full bags home due to lack of poo bins around:rolleyes:Smoke free since 30/01/13 :j0 -
tis actually illegal to flush dog waste down the loo ( the chemicals that they use to clean the water, are not strong enough to kill all bacteria, if flushing bags down the loo, where do you think they are going to end up???)
I always pick up after my three if in a public/ heavily used area, and of course in my own garden ( I have been known to go back after a dog has had the squits with a brush and hot water! ) BUT and this is a very BIG but...if I am walking them in the middle no nowhere ( which I often do, so we dont bump into plebs with out of control dogs ) I simply kick any mess under a hedge/bush. They are all fed RAW, so their poops break down surprisingly fast, compared to how long yet more plastic takes, I know which is better for the environmentKent Bird!:beer:0 -

I agree 100% about people picking up dog poo, sealing it in a plastic bag and then just leaving the bag in the hedgerow, or side of the path - are they completely mad:mad: We have seen loads of these and I always say to OH it would be much better to just leave the poo as it is than do this.
If I ever have cause to put dog poo down the loo, I just pick it up with some toilet paper and flush away, wouldn't use any type of bag.
I can't believe that it is illegal to put dog poo down a loo - is that definitely true?
When you think about some of things humans put down toilets that they are not supposed to - e.g. tampons, sanitary towels, nappies, etc etc, I would have thought that dog poo would be far less harmful.Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time :eek:0 -

No of course it isn't. How could an action that can't be monitored or policed be illegal? How would the proof be obtained?.....................I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

we only have two dog mess bins in my area one of them would me crossing a park where no fouling is allowed to dispose of bag the other would mean walking through an unlite park over a bridge frequented by drunk youths that enjoy annoying dogs and owners alike. so we take the long route home and use our own bin at home.slowly going nuts at the world:T0
