I 'm no techie expert , but if AVG is not going to scan for you, try one of the others that offer a free scan...http://security.symantec.com/sscv6/WelcomePage.asp

    http://housecall.trendmicro.com/uk/

there are a few others...google free virus scan
I have just removed AVG and they still keep popping up on my comp asking me to buy :eek:I am going to try another one but am really really worried about what is already lurking on my comp so am going to run c/cleaner first and hope it cleans out any damage/virus

    Download this http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download
It is what I use, recommended by VC. When I did a scan the other day it said I had a trojan and all I had to do (advised by VC to do ) was remove it to the chest and my computer was secure again. It was so easy I thought I had done it wrong but hadn't.
So when you do a FULL scan after downloading the avast programme, if bells ring and it says warning you have a virus, PRESS THE BUTTON THAT SAYS REMOVE TO CHEST
Be thankful for what you have because it could all be taken away tomorrow.;)

or anything else - keep getting message crashreporter.exe is infected and then avg flash up thier premium security pagage £50+ and take over my computer
every time i try to click onto a link i get a message that some file or other is infected and again the avg selling tactic - I have even removed avg anti virus from my comp but they seem to have taken it over
I tried system recovery but cannot get into there as it says file infected and same with add/remove programmes am at my wits end and wondered if running the recovery disc would do it but am aware that it will wipe everything from my comp - in between times I am being linked up to porno sites that just flash up onmy sreeen and then avg again ask if i want their anti virus at a price - thier feee anti virsu let all of this through!!!!!

and just to tell you all that i ended up calling in a professional who took over four and a half hours to clear and clean my comp as he found that had I a z.bot root kit virus which is primarily there to get my bank/credit card details - it didn't thank goodness and thank you all and those on the linked thread for all the help and adice
I am now asking for more advice as i am worried about my yahoo account being compromised
to explain - ages ago yahoo asked me to set up a seal that shows in the top right hand to ensure that i always knew that I had been directed to their officail site - i did that and have always seen the right seal there but today I went to log in and the seal was not there and I was asked if i wanted to create a seal etc and I am suspicious that I have been redirected to a bogus site as that was the point of setting up the seal in the first place as if it did not appear it would not be the real yahoo site- so after what has just happened to me i am worried that whoever infected my computer is hoping that I will log into their bogus yahoo site and reinfect my computer or allow them to get at my yahoo account but i don't know how to check this or what to do - any advice help would be very much appreciated and if there has been a problem with yahoo and any of you have had this same problem I would be pleased to know
    thanking you:A

I've been getting email messages from Yahoo saying that the old Yahoo is ending as it's ' tired and worn out'( their words) and to uninstall it and then go to a link and install Internet Explorer 8, when I tried I got the message Explorer 8 alredy installed, so gave up but now keep getting a window pop up that says' Install Windows Explorer 8'...and so the loop goes on....I click install, then informed already got it...given up now, will get around to sorting it when I'm in the mood and have the time.
