Hi Geoff, it would be the broker and not the actual insurer you write to.;)
Both of them have the same address anyway so either way the letters get there.0 -

It was when someone named Spoll was on the site some time ago and they had a complaint against Norton. They sent the complaint into FOS and FOS wrote back to say that Norton Finance were not under their jurisdiction until 2007??? I thought it strange as ALL sales of insurance were regulated from 2005 as you know. Anyway I went on the FSA site and found that Norton Finance were in fact appointed representatives of "norton insurance services". It was then that we caught the poster again and told them to tell the FOS that Norton were only appointed reps of Norton Insurance Services and they were their actual principals. Spoll then sent the complaint back to FOS and they looked into it. ALso troness came along too and said the same and urged Spoll to go back to FOS and tell FOS they had made a mistake. I think however, they are still just brokers of insurance and not actually insurers themselves. Its just that some that have had complaints against Norton Finance and going to FOS are sent away by fos saying they were under their jurisdiction until a later date (2007) and it was wrong as if they were selling insurance they had to have been regulated since 2005. If they say its Norton insurance services limited" then this gets the FOS's eye and they look into them.

Me getting confused again me thinks......:o, I am probably getting confused for eg, like mine with Endeavour sold from Click the insurers were Hamilton, you know what I mean lol.:D;)The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -

It was endeavour being the lender but click sold the insurance and endeavour was not even under the jurisdiction of FOS until 2007. I wonder who was responsible for them from 2005 to 2007 or did they not sell anything in regards to insurance themselves? OR were they only appointed reps for someone prior to this. What was the exact firm name of Endeavour Di.... now I have learnt how to use the FSA register a little better with help from FOS manager. I am wondering if Endeavour had principals??0 -

Cheers Marshalka.;)
All I know of in regards of Endeavour were that Hamilton were the insurers this then went to Norwich Union, and Endeavour are under the umbrella with HFC and HSBC group.
Will have to redig this back out to check I think.;)The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -

I take it you have now taken this complaint elsewhere though if I remember right?0 -
marshallka wrote: »Did you try to complain to HFC as HFC were endeavours principals and when I talked to FOS about the Barclays/Firstplus thing and tried to make my complaint against Barclays trading as firstplus they told me they could only accept the complaint if Firstplus were "appointed representatives" of Barclays and as they were not (although owned by them regardless) they could not do it this way. If they were then they could have made them responsible. That is what appointed reps mean I was told. If HFC were the principals of Endeavour and they were under FOS jurisdiction at the time of the sale then FOS should be able to make them responsible from what I gathered.????

HFC did write back and said it was nothing to do with them, but I wish I just pushed with the FOS now to be honest, no decided not to go anywhere else in the end, was going to but did not end up going any further, with hubby being so stressed at the time, we left it, bet it will be too late for me now though???The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -
Just a quick update on my fight against Norton. I got the standard reply from them saying that my claim was out of date having been in 2002 & that they weren't governed by anyone back then anyway so I cannot take it to the FOS.
I'm not sure whether thats all true or not so as they said that was their final response I made a complaint to the FOS & made it clear Norton Finance were acting as appointed reps of Norton Insurance Services Ltd. I have since received the reply that the FOS will now ask Norton for their take on the matter so at least they are investigating it.:j DMP mutual support thread member - 135:j0 -

Hi marshallka,
Yes I did phone the FOS about Norton Insurance Services & they were under jurisdiction in 2002. Like all these things the standard letter says they'll be back in touch within two months to let me know whats happening & I'll update again as soon as I know.:j DMP mutual support thread member - 135:j0 -
