What's the deal with Shere? Why is it such an expensive area? I initially assumed the prices were so high because as a pretty Surrey village it's full of London bankers. But looking at the Rightmove ads it's not very commutable to London, so who is earning enough to live there?0

No one by the looks of it, house on with 7 agents :rotfl::beer: Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -

They're paying the mortgage on an empty house then? I missed this weeks episode, but the first two ended with the pwobadee "developers" moving in, these guys haven't even twigged on that one?
Hmm, no tenant and no sale might be ok while interest rates are at historically low levels...0 -
Dopestars quote......''Which is a good thing, because they were like plastic people who know nothing about values, only know boom and being overly-rewarded in banking and data consultancy''.
and FungusYou can tell that these arseheads treat tradesmen with absolute distain..second class citizens almost...looking down on them.. How many of the people that they've featured actually do a job that is required - needed? A couple of singers, a wannabe sloan square thicko model, wall to wall bankers and a trendy artwork stenciliser..
(BTW Fungus that was fab...and no refs to Mewbies allure either)
I really try not to feel the same way...but I can't help myself...they drive me nuts too.
Worse, I meet these types day to day, parents of DD mateys plus in my new life hanging out with employees of 'Considerably richer and more powerful than thou'' Corps. It's utterly painful.
What I can't work out is how on earth do they get there? I must have a personality flaw or something as some of them...well.....you couldn't make it up.0 -
Oh and I think S Beeney should try a Hoxton fringe too....just for a change.0

I just saw the HPC thread..Fungus, naughty,,,the above was a C + P. I should have sussed it due the lack of refs to Mewbs.0

How do you park your car?
How do you get back to your own home in the summer season.
This is a fun website with streetview type revolving cameras - I assume the natives have been airbrushed. However "Little House" must be the wrong side of the river.

A nice walk or short bus ride brings you to the "silent pool" (Not sure how silent it would be these days given the universal traffic noise in the home counties.)
Not the sort of tourist attraction to visit with 4 thirteen year old boys. The agent of the then owner chucked us out when I was 13 for trying to climb the sides of the cutting,
We got bored looking at the over fed trout drifting about in the limpid dilute "Loo Blue" water. Come to think of it, the dad driving the car moved to Godalming and became a banker.
Perhaps there is something in the water down there:eek:

The commute isn't too bad. Either the slow train from Effingham Jcn (1 hour) or the fast train from Guildford (40 minutes).
It's a chocolate box village and it has a good community so I can see why people want to live there. It's gotten a bit suburban for my tastes pver the last ten years or so. Lots of excellent cycling round there though. Really first class both on and off road.0 -

But Shere is 6 miles from Guilford. So you have to drive to the station, along with the rest of the village, get a train and then unless you work in Waterloo/Vauxhall you need to traipse around the station and get a tube (or two) and then you have to walk to work. Most people would be looking at about 3 and a half hours round trip, that's not exactly prime commuterville.0 -
Anyone else watching tonight?0
