That's correct pinkpig, the link I just posted says the same - might make somne difference to those who are not sure working a KIT would be worth it. Obviously depends on what you agree to be paid, but if you're working a whole day I don't see why you would get paid less than normal!

If you have a job, how come you are not entitled to MA? We're you not working long enough to qualify, or not earning enough - just checking you've been given the right info!!

honeypop - im going outta my mind with this. ive posted on the benefits board, and everyone seems to agree with me. the story goes like this:

recieved a letter from employer syaing that i didnt qualify for SMP because i havent earnt enough. fair enough, i went to the social security office and asked for a maternity allowance form. they asked a couple of questions, which i answered ad basically said i wouldnt be eligible for MA either and to apply for income support.
Because i had no knowledge of any of this, i done what i was told. only afterwards having a proper think about and researching it online etc.
It means that i willl lose out on working tax credits each week, and basically will be -£300 ish a month! i really dont knoow how i am going to survive!!
When i had a look on the MA form, IMO i meet all the requirements. Ive worked for the company for 7 years, the last year being part-time and have earnt at least the £30 a week that it states is compulsory.

Im currently waiting on hearing back from Income support about my claim, but can i apply for MA aswell!?? Its all so confusing....!!???

Morning everyone, thought I would climb out of lurkdom to say good luck to MM, hope everything goes smoothly and wish you a speedy recovery!

I hope everyone else is okay, I'm okay I guess - I just wish I didnt feel like such carp all the time! Oh well, no more work for me for a while, i'm on 4 weeks annual leave at the moment and go straight to mat leave on 13th July! I'm only 29 weeks and cant believe how early I have given up work but I couldnt hack it anymore

    Love to all,

I say they're talking carp. I knew I qualified, but was told even for those who were not sure, they should fill in the MA form and send it off, just in case. The worst they can say is no you don't qualify, but on the other hand you might find someone there actually knows what they are doing and puts it through as qualified.

I downloaded the form so didn't have to ask anyone for it, so I think you should fill it in and send it off regardless, nothing changes if they come back and say no but at least you're doing all you can to get it then.

Not sure how it works with IS though.

    Hi Carlamagee,

I would apply for MA, it sounds like the woman you spoke to didnt have a clue what she was on about! you can go back 66 weeks with your payslips i think so if I was you I would be sending in some from when I worked full time :D

I'm not sure but I dont think it will matter to the tax credits if you get MA or income support, the main thing is you are still employed but on maternity leave so they should still pay your WTC/CTC.

oops, meant to say, i used to work at the jobcentreplus, we didnt deal with MA and would have to look up the eligibility criteria, I wouldnt be at all surprised if they had given you duff info.

dont worry about it, your not the only one!!! I took my holidays and went straight into my maternity leave early aswell. Ive been off for about a month and a half in total now and am 33 weeks this week. Pregnancy is different for everyone, impirtant thing is that you look after yourself and your bubba! As long as you can survive without working, then why make yourself ill!?? :)

unfortunately not! when i was querying it, i phoned the tax credits and told them about the situation and they said i would still recieve ctc, but not wtc because i would be claiming IS!!
It is really infuriating me, cos I am only claiming it because they advised me to. and now i think i would be better off not claiming it.

honeypop - i just looked at the downloaded form, but have no access to a printer.
think im gonna go along and fill in a form and see what happens....worse they can say is no, right? im no gonna go to jail for filling in a form, am I!? lol
