I feel so responsible for 'making' this baby and don;t want to mess it up.

You're not messing it up. Your baby is growing and the only reason you're worried is because a midwife who can't find the pubic bone and doesn't recognise a baby's !!!!! when she has it in her hand thinks you're not expanding fast enough.

You've already succeeded in making and growing the baby, you're just fattening it up for the last few weeks now to make sure it's a bit padded for the journey out.

It's really hard not to worry, but you're doing great and your midwife's a scuttering idiot. It might be an idea to let the doula know what's going on, but you have valid reasons for preferring a home birth so make sure everyone knows you want one and intend to get one. (Besides, if you have a HB, that means I can pinch your epidural and have a spare.)

She has written head down on my notes though, but when I asked could it be back to back she said she'd have expected to have trouble finding the HB if that were teh case.

My baby has been back to back all the way through and MW has had no problem finding the HB at all - it is always found in the centre of my belly.
My MW said yesterday that my belly has a "classic" dip in the middle of my bump of someone whose baby is back to back, do you have that?
My bump looked small too up until 31/32 weeks and was still wearing some non maternity clothes and kept being told that I didn't "look" pregnant by neighbours etc. But the last 3 or 4 weeks I have really filled out.

My MIL was telling me how when pregnant with DH, she didn't look pregnant at all, she was very petite (5' and around 7 1/2 stone) and he was a healthy 7 lb baby - but he was just hiding the whole time!

Also, when she measured me, she asked ME if she was on the public bone! I don;t know! I have no idea where you are supposed to measure from! Isn;t she supposed to know?

My MW does this too , I never know if she is in the right spot either!

Thanks everyone. I was off reading suff on small babies and home birth. i need to have all the info with me when I see the consultant in case she is a witch.

I think I need to go and do some housework to distract myself and try and get ready for the in-laws coming this weekend.

Maybe I'll take some Rescue Remedy too - I feel a bit frantic and out of control and need to calm down.

I know - if Skinty has one there's a spare epidural for the hospital birth she didn't have.

I'm a bit too high risk for home birth AND I want all the drugs they can pump into me.

Speaking of which - that had better just be a BH going on. The occupant is not due out for another 8 weeks and has already been grounded AND warned.
