Skinty, FH is not an accurate enough measurement to be worrying over - the Germans don't measure it at all, although they do stare at the belly and if it's noticeably small or large they do a scan to check what's going on in there. But a couple of cm each way makes very little difference - it can depend on how the baby's lying and how much amniotic fluid's in there. Plus you're normally quite fit and healthy, aren't you? It could simply be that your abdominal muscles are stronger than other people's and are holding up better.
The consultant may prefer a hospital birth, but you're still within your rights to insist on a home birth assisted by a midwife if the only indication for hospital birth is a potentially small baby from a small woman with a family history of small babies. It might be an idea for you to look into getting a doula if you think it might be hard for you to insist on a HB or a hospital trip later on - your OH will be concentrating on you and some of them understandably find it hard to insist on something when the people in charge are telling them they might be responsible for Terrible Things happening.

Skinty try not to stress, I'm sure some MW are sent to try us! My sisters had my sister in tears telling her she wasn't feeding her baby enough but he was fine. Babies are amazingly resilient!
Can anyone recommend a good bump band? I can't do my trousers up any more but still haven't found any maternity trousers that fit but my sister suggested getting a bump band that can hold trousers up.Mum to DD born Oct 2009

Skinty, have you been measured as more than 1cm small previously?
In my area they don't send you for a scan unless threy have 3 measurements more than 2cm out or one massively out (5cm ish I think)
My baby is 'side to back' has been for about 4 weeks now (must be comfy) so his head is fixed at the start of my pelvis and as u look at me like a clock his head is at 6, bum at around 10, feet at 1 or 2, hands around 4. I only get movement down one side of my bump now as he can only wriggle his arms n legs a bit with the little space.
I really thing her measurement must be out seeing as she didn't know if the tape measure was on ur pubis and she got 2 very different measurements plus the fact you were probably still lay too flat as at home and not the couch at doc's.
The only time I measured 3cm small was at home when lay flat all my other measurements have been 1cm 'small'.
I REALLY think your baby is fine honey, just try to enjoy getting to see him/her again on another scan0 -

THat could be true about the muscles - I had a totally flat tummy before and I do yoga regularly, so they could well be quite strong and holding the baby in.
I have a doula! I've not told her about this yet as technically she's not 'mine' till I'm 38 weeks, but I might email her and let her know what's going on.
My OH is very blase about it all - he feels everything is fine, that we are all small in our families and so the baby will naturally be small, and that there is nothing to worry about, but I can't be like that! I feel so responsible for 'making' this baby and don;t want to mess it up. DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j

As I said Skinty, DS2 was a 'small baby' and also query breech and he weighed in at 5lb12oz at 33 weeks and was the correct way up (or down) all along. He just has a skinny butt!
Hopefully the scan will put your mind at rest.
You are not messing it up!!! It's a natural thing to blame yourself if something goes wrong, but it's not correct. A babies size and weight is determined by genetics mainly. What you eat doesn't affect it in any way. How stressed you are doesn't affect it. You are a great incubator and I hate your medical team for making you feel otherwise!0 -

HAving thought about it since, I wonder it it might be side to back? Can they do that? I mean, could it have the head down, but have its left shoulder facing my tummy and the back shoulder facing my back? That way she'd get the heart easily but the bottom would be around my side and the bit she thought was a bottom might be knees/legs?
Yep - Sam was side to back - curled generally to the left hand side of my bod, with his feet sticking out sideways under my right side ribs. Head was down. No probs in finding hb there either. Couldn't tell up from down on him for a few weeks.
