I have called them after receiving the price hike but, the guy I talked to stuck to his guns offering to not increase the price after April and If I cancel have to pay the remaining months of the contract which they said started after moving to my new address. what a trap.

    A) You call to cancel.

    B) They offer a sweetener to stay.

You can still refuse their offer of B. You don't have to accept it.

And, you don't pay the remaining months of your contact either. You pay a fee per month per service which should be much lower than the monthly subscription. Stick to your guns. "hello, I'm calling to cancel due to the price rise as my contract allows under clause x.x". "Can we offer you a deal to stay?" "No. This increase has put me off, as you could put the price up next month. Thank you"
  • Just to let you know, I received my email this morning to confirm my bill was going up by 4.00 per month so I have just rang to give my 30 days notice.

I am still in contract with the phone side of things for 3 months but he admitted that I could leave without penalty due to price rises.

He agreed that my price has risen quite a bit since my last renewal (about 15 months ago).

I was paying just over 46.00 when I agreed renewal with retentions and today I am currently paying 64.50 which would then rise to 68.50 ish in April, which to me is unacceptable.

My half price line rental finished in November 2011 (but contracted for another 6 mths after that) and I had a 10.00 per month rolling discount which never renewed in November.

He said they were not offering discounts nowhere near what they were last time, I will wait and see if retentions ring, if not I will look for other options.

For anybody that is interested my package is:

    XL TV
    10mgb BB
Phone with anytime calls and 0845
3 x V+ boxes (main one in lounge and others in 2 bedrooms)

Do you think I am asking for the impossible to get the price back to what it was?

    Kind Regards

    xx

I too got a letter today informing of the £3.50 price increase.

After speaking to "customer relations", they offered to increase my loyalty discount by £4.00, effectively giving me a £0.50 price reduction overall!
  • I received the letter over the weekend and can't believe they are able to do this when a set amount is decided upon when signing up with them. As per usual there is generally nothing you can do about it but pay.
  • There is something you can do, ring and complain! They will either reduce your price back to what you agreed to keep you as a customer or you can break your contract without penalty as it is stated in their T&C's.

    Give them a call.

As has been frequently stated, it is not a fixed price contract, so they can change prices at any time. Just like any other telcoms provider.
You have the option of taking your business elsewhere without a penalty if you do not want to pay the increase.

My bill was due to increase by £4.85 a month, so called VM cancellations today. They did offer to give me a £4 a month discount on the new total, but I nicely asked to continue with the termination.
The very nice lady did say that she had 'managed' to get all cancellation fees waived for me (I didn't point out that there shouldn't be any ;) ), so now I wait and hold my nerve.
    C'mon you Canaries!!

I am now a sky tv customer have got my same package for half the price 5 pound instillation cost all other cost waived very pleased and my prices will stay the same for 12 months this includes a brand new phone line being installed. Virgin media had no ability to improve my costs so cancelled without any hassle I got the impression the girl was dealing with this situation on every call she received.

  • Hi, for those who have broken their contract.
I want to do the same, and tommorrow I will call them and try to do so.
If I am successful, what will happen? Will after 30 days will my internet just not work?
Because when we went from o2 to Virgin media (big mistake lol) we did pay the disconnection fee and we were sent some codes which we then passed on to Virgin media and they sorted it out and gave us a date on when our internet will be swapped and installation and such. Will this be the same?
