I think much of the poor quality of Scottish restaurants is down to not being able to get a wide variety of good quality fresh basic ingredients, apart from native stuff, I think by the time it gets to you it is a bit tired, we are used to fresher food I think.

There are some awful restaurants here - just as there are in England. Some don't bother getting decent ingredients, but there is actually a huge range of widely available fantastic ingredients. Fish is better, veg tends to be better too. What I will say is that places like ASDA don't seem to have decent fresh produce in Scotland - compared to other places.

Customer service is also very hit or miss. There are some beyond shockingly poor places for customer service here - but again - it's no different than in England.

Bad things: I cannot find a decent curry house in Glasgow, despite repeated attempts.

    There are at least 2 things glaringly wrong with this statement;
1 - Your position in life is not of a level that you would receive an important call of any kind.
2 - A woman would know you well enough to even call you.

There are barely any motorways in Scotland, lots of A road 2 lanes, but hardly any 3 laned motorways.
In Scotland you sit your GCSE's at 15 and Highers at 16 (I certainly did) as opposed to 16 and 18 in England
You can get married without parental consent in Scotland at 16 as opposed to 18 south of the border
Not in a racial way but there are a lot less foreigners.
Water is of a better quality
Ive never really noticed that Scotland is perceived to be colder. Its just as cold here as it was in N.Yorks where i spent a considerable amount of time.

To be honest, Brits are Brits and you get the same kind of types both north and south of the borderline.

You will probably not notice any real difference.
We don't have GCSE's in Scotland, its standard grades (used to be ordinary grades), highers, advanced highers (used to by sixth year studies) and also Int 1 and 2 (not sure what the 'int' stands for though :o).

I think the quality of food varies across Scotland, as it does anywhere else.
Scotland is known for sea food, fish, meat (red especially), good fresh local vegetables (we have greenhouses here too you know!).

I have been all over , visited many establishments on recommendation , but no luck.

probably you do think your local places are good, but it depends what you are comparing it to, and what you are used to. I would probably visit , and what you would rave about, I would find very average, simply because we are used to better and have higher standards.

    good food?

i do know what it tastes like you know:rolleyes:

I refuse to waste any more time on you:wave:

Its not unfounded , I visited a number of supermarkets from various chains, and there was a marked difference in the standard and quality of the produce available, much of it very tired.

I guess it depends what you are used to  and the standards you will except, I only eat the very freshest of things you see.

If you base your experiences only on what supermarkets sell then it will not be a representation of what is available overall, including in local and corner shops. Many parts of Scotland are lucky not to be overrun by supermarket chains and small suppliers are still covering wide parts of the community.

This isn't restaurants though. I mentioned that asda have a reputation (apparently) for good produce, but I think the stuff in my local one is awful, and I won't buy there. Having said that I can get fresher, cheaper local top quality meats and veg a 5 minute walk from here, and in fact one of the best butchers I've ever known is very close to my current home.

But some of it is a locality thing - I'd probably not find anything good in you area - I don't know your area.
