    27 down here.
I hate London in the summer, the polution gets trapped inside a modern type of smog & you can taste the fumes & polution in the sticky humid air:eek:
And think of the electricity we're spending on having the fans going :rotfl::rotfl:

    Not here either. :D

Ah but we get more daylight here MrsE. At this time of year the sun sets after 10pm in Inverness but just after 9pm in Gatwick. Sunrise is earlier here too. :p

My family are from the west of Ireland & I LOVE those late summer nights:D

All joking (Fifer tail pulling etc.) aside, when I went to Scotland I found it a very friendly place with some lovely scenery. I went in summer though so it was bright and sunny, I would imagine with the short winter days (daylight) and the cold wet weather it can be pretty grim.
I agree. Joking aside the jocks are a friendly bunch.
Only one thing to watch out for. Porridge. They put salt in it instead of sugar. yuck

If someone moved there, from here.. what could they expect? What would be the biggest changes?

I am scottish, and there are a few differences I noticed when I spent a few summers working in england.

    - Supermarkets are always open up here. None of your work-shy-english shutting at 8pm, on bank holidays, early on a sunday, nonsense here.
    - Pubs open later. I hated getting kicked out at 11pm down south, and having to either go home or go to a noisy club, when I just wanted a quiet drink
    - People seem more socialist in scotland. You wouldn't really hear as many people complaining about their taxes going on X or Y, as people are happier to pay tax for decent services than middle england. Maybe that's just my experience though.
    - People don't really bother to celebrate things like easter in the same way. E.g. where I am, most people worked easter and there was a local holiday the week after instead.

Other things that are very different which I don't have any personal experience of:

    - The house buying/selling system is very different
    - If you are religious, the Church of Scotland is quite different to the Church of England in a lot of ways
    - The education system is different in more ways than just the exams. My in-laws moved up here when my OH was 11, and were surprised at the lack of choice. Down south, OH had to sit entrance exams for grammar schools, his brother went to a boys only school, and picking a school was apparently a big decision. Here, they went to the nearest comprehensive, no options (unless catholic, who have their own schools). Personally, I think that is better though.

Not quite. There are fewer arrogant, opinionated and misinformed xenophobes. :)

The main memory I took from Scotland, was the filth, its one of the dirtiest places I have been.

Edinburgh only just beats Dublin by a short head in the "filthy City stakes" , but my gosh its a dirty old place.

    AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

If the jocks spoke more clearly you would realise that you are misinformed and the jocks are even more arrogant, opinionated, misinformed and xenophobic than there English betters. How else account for Ally's tartan army?
