talk about a changed woman - instead of buying the books in the supermarket like i would normally do, i wrote the names down and am planning on going to the library to rent them.

Books are free to borrow in the library ;) But you pay a small charge to borrow CDs,tapes,DVDs and videos. :)
  • Im going to be brave and dig out my slow cooker, ive never been much of a cook but i think nows the time to learn!

Ive seen some great lunch ideas on the Recipe board and at a works meeting in the pub last week ( my boss paid!! ) i had a lovely salad with chicken, mango and strawberry which has given my inspiration for my own versions.I reckon i can save at least £25 on lunches this month.

Id love to get my dog food bill down a bit. 1 of my dogs has asthma so is on a special diet but it doesnt seem to do any good so i will talk to my vet about taking him on to home cooking, hadnt really thought about cooking for the dogs, thanks!

My delivery turned up last night from Tesco, and only a couple of subs (that I was happy with btw). Total spend was £62.05 leaving me just over £37 for the rest of the month. This might scare some of you....but my freezer is completely crammed full. I have instructions from the OH not to dare to buy or put anything in the freezer. To be honest...I wouldn't anyway as I couldn't squeeze anything else in there.

Me suspects that its time to work on emptying the freezer.

All I should need for the rest of the month are fruit, veggies, and other basics which should easily be done with what I have left.

Is there a petfood post going any where on the forum? we feed our dogs very cheaply (yet still healthy) but our cats are costing us a fortune, it would be nice if we could swap ideas, but I dont want to go off topic on this thread. If anyone can point me in the right direction I would be grateful.

We have some Home Made dog food posts listed in the link below, but none that I recall for cats. There's been mention here and there, though. Hard to track down.

Well, here I am at the start of another month and another challenge.

Last month I did the challenge for the first time - I set myself what I thought would be a difficult but manageable target. I was spending about £400 per month for 2 adults and 2 toddlers and set the target at £300 which was to include all toiletries, cleaning products and nappies. I spent £306.30 which was good considering, if I'm honest, I didn't put too much effort into it. :o It has made me a little embarrassed to be honest as I was obviously spending on things I didn't really need if I could do it that easily. I know what my downfall is......the corner shop! When I take my little one to playschool it's there looking at me saying buy something you know you what to! and very often in the past I have.

:T I have to say thanks to you all though as although I don't post alot I do read alot and have found some helpful and very useful tips to set me up for the next challenge.

I overspent in March  but i suppose it was a 5 week month, and my average was £50.65, so not too bad, had hoped to be nearer £40, so that will be my challenge for April, £40 per week, might add to my siggy, to encourage me more!!!!!

I'm going to give this a go too this month.

I'm guessing that I spend around £100 on groceries, but we all know that guessing is usually optimistic! I whizz round Asda just after payday and stock up on a month's worth of "essentials" and then add to it as the weeks go by. I do cook and I take my lunches to work, however, as a busy person, I often fall into the trap of ready meals (particularly near the beginning of the month when I can "afford" it). And I have developed an expensive Cafe Nero habit as I now work virtually next door to one! I dread to think how this impacts on my grocery bill. Think I'll dig the flask out and take my own (equally nice) coffee to work with me instead!

    Good luck all!
 What if the hokey cokey is what it's all about?
