I decided to tell my sister that we were doing this, and she looked at me like I've got 2 heads, I reminded her that she managed great when her OH was unemployed, her reply? 'Well I wouldnt dream of going back to eating the c**p we ate then' I dont eat c**p, I dont feed my family c**p, I thought her of all people would realise its all about going back to eating 'proper food' and doing everything from scratch. I'll be keeping it to myself from now on, apart from sharing it with everyone here ;)

russjacks, I do a monthly menu starting from payday to the next payday. This is not set in stone though. I try and alternate expensive meals eg chicken fajitas with cheaper meals eg pasta and sauce. I do make meals from scratch. My food bill is about £350 a month for 6 of us, that includes quite a bit of organic food, meat, fruit and veg are bought from the farm shop or market. I make my own bread because I know whats in it, it tastes better and keeps the children fuller for longer. I don't buy cakes or biscuits, again make my own. I never buy ready meals. This month I'm avoiding the supermarkets and shopping locally so menu planning is done around what I know is sold in local shops. Not sure how this will affect the overall bill, but this is something that is important to us as a family so we try and make savings elsewhere.

Oh dear.... only a few days in and have already spent £57.50. Not good

I have read so much about getting veg from farm shops so I decided to try it. Went to my local farm shop and ended up spending £11.04 on stuff that would have cost under a fiver in tesco.... they charged me £2.35 for 5 tomatoes! Wont be trying that again. Shopping in tescos from now on!

On another note tho, got some meat off the those people that yell from the backs of lorrys at car boots and markets..... was surpised at the quality, great value for money. Will be doing that again.

Must try harder to stop buying food that I dont really need.

Well it's all gone out the window. I have no idea how much I've spent this month. I know I'm under on my spending for meals but it's DD's birthday party x 2 thats blown the budget out the water and into space orbiting somewhere beyond pluto :o Well she's only 5 once (even if she is having 3 parties in total! ) and this is the first time she's had a party for friends so what the hell :D I know that I've only spent about £100 all told so far but that includes £35-45 on her two gifts (including postage!) and I need to go and buy lemonade and top up a few bits ;)

russjacks, have a good look around the forum, theres lots of great recipes been posted. You will need to spend some time taking a good look at the site, theres loads of tips on how to save money. You can also fine tips on how to save money on cleaning products, this is really helpful, as you can waste money buying cleaning stuff thats not needed. Beware though, this site is addictive, and before you know it, a whole morning can pass you by without you realising ;)
