I ent to Tesco today to get food for the week. I kept picking things up then hearing voices of MSErs in my head telling me not to buy things. I stocked up a few bits while they were on BOGOF. I spent just under £30 but when I got home I realised how full my cupboards are. The £30 I spent was mainly on fresh veg/milk/yoghurts etc. I have two toddlers who are both milk monsters so I'll need milk again before next week. Nappies were over £4 a pack in Tesco whereas in Boots two packs are £7.50 plus I get points so I left those till tomorrow.
I have no idea what I spend on food/petrol etc but this month I pln to find out. I am jotting down every penny that I spend in a freebie calender.

    Thanks for the imspiration!!!!!!!!!!

  • I'm in again too. Working from 1st - 30th April, we are allowing £150 to feed 2 adults, & buy all toiletries & cleaning products. We came in under budget last month, but we were using up some cupboard, fridge & freezer items. We are now down to the bare bones so will have to restock. I'm still confident it can be done though!

I'm going to join in too this month for the first time. My month will run from 1st-30th April.

I know it sounds extremely excessive, but I'm aiming for £200 for two adults .

In my defense ;) , can I say that I only moved into my house 3 and a bit weeks ago, so I'm still stocking up the cupboards and freezer.

I have just about all the cleaning products under the sun (not very OS I know, but I was given them, so am making the most of them!) so my £200 won't include cleaning products.

It will, however, include toiletries and household "extras" which I'll probably need to buy over the next few weeks (i.e. an icecream scoop is on the list this week as OH bent a (new!) spoon trying to get it out of the tub last week!!).

After I'm stocked up, then I will be looking at cutting my bill a LOT!!

How does this thread work? Do people post back after they've done a shop, stating how much of their budget they've got left?

People often do, yes, but it's entirely up to you. :)

If you check the "Monthly Challenges" link you'll find previous month's challenges that you can browse. There's some good stuff in them.

You can find these via my signature any time you see it or...

..you can use the Monthly Challenges link in the Blue Bar at the top of every page which looks something like this:-

Hi,count me in too, I'm new to this, its my first post. Last week we decided to give ourselves a weekly grocery budget of £50, this is for 2 adults, 2 kids and 2 cats. We drew £50 out of the bank last wednesday, and kept a record of everything we spent on food, and so far still have £1.07 left, with enough food left to last us until sunday, (mostly from doubling up on cooking and freezing leftovers). We didnt include cleaning products and dog food in the budget, but might decide to do so if we can keep this up. We feed our dogs the BARF diet, and took delivery of a freezer full of meat for them on tuesday, costing us £18.95, which hopefully will last about 3 weeks, so might include this in our budget. OH wants me to include the cleaning/toiletries too, but as its our first week of serious budgeting I think I'll keep them seperate for now. This thread is great, very helpful.

My target is £200 this month (£50 a week)for 2 adults and 3 kids but no pets!I didn't do too well last month, but I know I can do it.I think Squeaky's advice of starting off the month by being very frugal is good.I have got an enormous amount of meat in the freezer to last a good 5-6 months.I paid for this with the child benefit ;)

Good luck to everyone else doing the challenge this month and don't forget there are a couple of bank holidays plus chocolate in April :D

The target is still £100 for the month....but I have a sneaking suspicion that I will go over. I have a tesco delivery due tonight that should eat up more than half the budget.

However, over the past 2 months I have managed to save around £80 from underspending on my grocery budget....which isn't bad going.

Well done Sue! Can I ask where you get your BARF meat? Sounds like a good deal - is it a local supplier? Am considering putting ours back on a BARF diet when we finally get a freezer again - but have lost our old supplier so am not sure where to get stock from.

Hi Ladywood, we get it from a local supplier, not sure if I can post the name on here, but if I can, get back to me.I'm new to this forum, so forgive me if I'm wrong. We also get RMB's from a local butcher, 50p a tray, and depending on which butcher has put them up, we can sometimes get 2 breakfasts out of them for our 2 dogs. Bargain, and the dogs are thriving on it.
