    Ok,

I'm going to try, only trouble is we're off to Rome from April 1st to 8th so I'm not going to count that. Then I'll try for £200 for rest of the month as DS is home from Uni.

I'm one of the pop into the shop for bread and come out with 10 things brigade so I hope it will help with that! :o

    Hi

I think I'm going to try this. I'm trying to wean my OH out of his habit of going down to the shop every day. He gets a little benefit every week (industrial injuries) so that's his pocket money for cigarettes etc. That way I can keep a grip of my wages!!

So... I'm going to start off with a target of £150 for the month (there's only two of us plus a dog) which includes everything.

Do most people just jot down their bill totals? or do you list everything out on spread sheets?

I personally just write it down in the same notebook I put my menu planner and shopping list - keeps it all in one place and I can take it when I go shopping.

I'm giving it another go. I've been really proud of myself the last two months. March for us was a three week month as we went away for a week. I budgetted £60 per week (£180 for March). I usually only food shop at the weekend and unless we have an unexpected take away then I have managed to come in at £24 under budget. :T :j

April is a 5 weekend month so for me that would be a budget of £300. I'm going to stick to £60 per week this month (rather than try and reduce it), especially as it is Easter and I will be doing lots of cooking activities with the children I look after (and buying them treats).

Snap, me too. I was very proud of myself today. I went to town and only spent £1.14 on an ebay parcel. I then went to Asda with my Mum. I came out with a bag of Home Fries Chips and two packs of batter mix and I hadn't spent a penny. I out y shopping through with my Mums and handed over the coupon for free chips from last weeks Sun. The chips were only £1.45 but the till took off £1.69. The batter mix was reduced to 10p and has next Feb's date on it. It was the large packs which need two eggs so each one will last us twp meals.
I am off to Tesco tomorrow armed with my list. I am hopefully going to buy what is on the list and nothing else. Wish me luck!!!!
Nevermind the dog, beware of the kids!
  • I think I'm going to give it a go too! :j

I'm quite into cooking and trying out new recipes and stuff - but sometimes I don't really think about how expensive ingredients might be, whether they're in season etc. The other day I decided on something with aubergines and they were so expensive - couldn't believe I was still in the fruit and veg aisle!

Anyway, I have quite a few dry ingredients lingering in the cupboard - I want to use these all up, make some nice things without spending so much. I quite like the idea of using my imagination a bit more rather than just following a recipe to the letter.

I also need packed lunches quite often - I think these are so much nicer than sandwiches you by on the road (if I'm organised enough to get nice stuff to put in them!)

I spend £28 per week (just me) on groceries as well as toiletries, want to see if I can reduce this by a couple of quid to start with.

    Good luck everyone! :T
  • I'm going to try for £350 for me and two kids who are the worlds fussiest eaters, and an equally fussy scottie dog who will only eat Pedigree pouches which cost £9 a week!! I will include petrol and all other sundry expenses. Not holding out too much hope though as I am still very addicted to Tescos!!

Hi - Im going for £100.00 from April 10th to May 9th ( I get paid on the 10th so my month starts then ) I am also trying out getting an organic veggie box delivered free every 2 weeks so we will see how that goes. I already make soups a lot but would like to start baking biscuits and actually using my bread maker :o We are away for a few days in April and food is already sorted for that so hopefully should manage the £100.00 shopping challenge for 1 adult, 1 child, 1 dog and 1 rabbit. I include washing and toiletries in my grocery budget too. Wish me luck LOL

Nghaaaaa I'm really miffed, I've just today exceeded my monthly limit :( But, I'm going to stick with £25 for 1 adult because I just started doing the R&R at Tesco to get free food. As I'm on a low-carb diet and eat mainly meat and cheese, and it's mainly meat and cheese that's mispriced, I think I'm going to do quite well in April :D Tesco are gonna hate me :D
