    I'm cooking one right now, 2.5kg :D
25 minutes as hot as oven will go, then 15mins/500g at 180 (fan oven) have stabbed it and stuffed the wounds with garlic and rosemary. leave to rest for 20-30 mins, finish off roast spuds etc
Gravy will be a little flour added to tray, cooked off, red wine and redcurrent jelly boiled up til yummy
Served with roast spuds parsnips &carrots, and steamed green beans. Roast leg of lamb-DONE ;):D:D
(ps no slow cooker-yummy crispy skin and tender pink lamb my way. If you like it brown-20mins/500g :D)

:(:(:(NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! The lamb was off :(:(:(
Bought half price from Sainsbury last week, use by 5th april, and rancid.
Smelt bit odd when took it from the vac pack, but often do, but after cooking for a bit, smelt awful, and tasted worse-ever so upset (and feeling really quite sick from the smelltbh):(
However rang sains careline and gave them details and refunded all the amount (plus a little extra) onto my nectar card-so decent service but still :( Have just removed one from freezer(whoopsie from waitrose!) that hopefully will restore our faith in lamb!
So-my advice stands on how to cook one, but not if its rancid

If you get the timing right, you can do lamb in slowcooker so it stays pink but goes very tender. Salt and pepper joint, brown the joint on the hob (helps if it's more like half-leg size rather than whole-leg) then put in slowcooker with garlic, onions and root veg. Depends how quick your slowcooker works (a meat thermometer will help you sort timing) but it takes a bit under 4 hours in mine. Outside of the meat brown, the inside cooked rare, and made lovely and tender by the slow cooking.

    I've got a half-leg for Sunday :D

I havent got a slow cooker so do mine in oven. I prefer minted lamb (no garlic and rosemary) so put lamb in roasting tray on sheets of foil then put either fresh mint (chopped) all over or jar mint. wrap the lamb up and put in oven for about 20 minutes per pound - take it out and cut into middle of it - if its cooked to my liking i take it out and let it rest while cooking the veg. if not it gets another twenty minutes or so.

I always take the bone out of a leg of lamb ...it is quite easy to do if you take your time and don't panic ....it makes it so much easier to carve.

I always leave the bone in; it adds so much more flavour.

I've just taken mine out of the packaging and it smells a bit weird? It's been out defrosting all night, but smells like it's been out longer. Not really rancid just like it's sweated??

I'm gonna cook it anyway so if i don't come back you know what that means :rotfl:

I'm going to cook it on the lowest gas setting for a 3 hours, have put a little water in and foil over it. Or should i cook it a bit higher?
