Ok, Stardrops has to be the UK's best kept secret. I didn't go looking for it, but something clicked when I saw some at Pound Stretchers. After reading all the rave reviews on this thread, it must've seeped into my unconscious or something.

I bought the concentrated version for 85p. Not the cheapest I know, but still a bargain compared to what other cleaning products cost. It took off the caked grease on my electric hob that Cif didn't manage to. And since my mum can't abide the smell of vinegar, and she's visiting in the summer, Stardrops has to be a godsend.

Okay, just a week ago, I wouldn't have been able to imagine raving about a cleaning product but here I am! I'm going on a cleaning spree tomorrow. How does one use it on upholstery I wonder?

    Another convert here!

Used it Saturday in the bathroom, it cleaned up no problem - however, was hours later on I realized that the bathroom was actually gleaming, all nice and shiny.
DH washed outside windows and white upvc frames too, which were really dirty, and was quite impressed.

Quick question, sorry if it's been asked before:

Is Stardrops antibacterial? I'm a bit of a worrier re. germs in the kitchen and am thinking of using my stardrops diluted in a spray bottle to clean my kitchen worktops etc... so will the stardrops alone be enough to disinfect? And if not is it safe to mix some bleach or other form of disinfectant into my Stardrops solution?

    Thanks in advance...

Had a look at the bottle for you, and doesn't say anything about it being antibacterial, however someone else might know better, as just got mine on Friday. I will certainly be using on my kitchen worktops for cleaning/wiping them.
I am a bit sceptical of all of those anti-bacterial sprays, lotions and potions. .
Am sure the overuse of such things has lead to people getting ill, we are all too sanitised. (Will not go into a major rant here, though feel another post coming on!).

This should probably be posted on the Green board, but since someone on this thread asked about the eco-friendliness of Stardrops, I just wanted to share something I found on the Ethical Consumer website. Just look at the "ethiscore" for Stardrops. Compare with Flash! (Or Ecover for that matter).

I haven't looked into the criteria in detail but I thought you might find it interesting.

I used to use floor cleaning sprays (for laminate) pre os which are useful for a quick clean.

Im just about to finish my last bottle so do you think I could put some stardrops in a spray thingy (sorry its too early) dilute with water and use it like that? I find it much more convenient that way.

I think someone mentioned that they put some in a squirty bottle (i can't think either!!) and dliute it a bit. Give it a go - I'm going to when my ecover spray has run out.

You are wasting money buying so called anibacterial sprays - you dont leave them on the surface long enough for them to kill anything

If you are really paranoid then use your cleaner of choice and then wipe down with Milton or similier. But good old hot water and soap does the trick everytime

Well, I DID get round to cleaning the bathroom yesterday with my Stardrops and my microfibre cloth.... and like a lot of ppl who have posted since I last did, I wasn't all that impressed at first...it was only when I went back into the bathroom a while later, that I realised everything was a lot sparklier than usual! Especially the taps... lovely.

I agree with suki, I think anti-bac sprays are a waste of time and money. If you use hot water with your product instead of lukewarm, there are almost no household bacteria that will survive. Take it from someone who has a BSc in Biosciences and an Intermediate Food Safety and Hygiene Certificate. Plus, I think that this is what has contributed to the increase in allergies in children.

Roz - why are you worrying so much about germs in the kitchen? You have to leave some because when and if you do come into contact with any kind of lurgy that will make you ill, you will suffer more because your resistance has been lowered by not coming into contact with them on a regular basis. Plus all those antibacterial cleansers are only chemicals in another disguise and so you have to weigh up the pros and cons and I know personally I'd rather take my chances with the germs than be surrounded by chemicals.
