The main issue about cleaners & septic tanks is that the cleaners kill the bacteria in the septic tank. the bacteria cause the slurry to break down so that you dont need to empty the septic tank very often.
You also need to be water consious with a septic tank so that the soak aways dont have to much to deal with. You will love your water bill! 50% of it will be missing as you dont pay for sewerage!
there are enzymatic products on the market that help break down the slurry & keep soakaways clear. Centre for Alternative tecnology sell them as do the Organic gardening Catalogue. You can probably find a cheaper source though.0 -
Stardrops has none of the efficient anti-bacterial action of bleaches, also it requires diluting before use. Unless you intend to empty whole bottles of the stuff into the tank (why would you?) then the addition of negliable amounts of detergent into your septic tank is extremely unlikely to affect the bacteria.
(personally I installed a septic tank and used it for 3 years before I moved. In that time I emptied everything into it via the toilet and greywater pipe, bleach, detergent, food residue etc and had no problems at all, though perhaps wouldn't recommend it to others!)0 -
had a blocked up toilet
tried the normal methods and thought i'd have to resort to a mr muscle type drain cleaner
emptied out the pan as much as i could and poured a whole bottle of stardrops down seriously thinking it was a waste of time
next morning flushed and the blockage was gone

I am totally in love with my bottle of Stardrops today! I'm one of those people who can never seem to get everything white in the wash and I was dreading washing DS's football socks and shorts after he had been playing when it was muddy. I soaked them in a bowl of warm water and some Stardrops and that got rid of almost all of it and once it had been in the wash as usual they were good as new
I will definitely try it on other things like socks and school shirts.:T

Its wonderful stuff! I've got rid of all the useless bottles of cleaners I had - have wasted a fortune over the years. Just use stardrops these days for pretty much everything. My mum was right - shouldve listened to her years ago0 -

I don't see why not - i use stardrops as a washing up liquid sometimes and it's great.
Saved us when we went self-catering to wales as OH spilled some red wine on his only pair or shorts, so I hand washed them and they were perfect for the next day - he would have fainted in jeans!0
