Julie, those cherries look so real!! What are they made of? I do like the idea of these baby sundae thingys. Is it a vest?"There are no pockets in a shroud..."0 -
Does anyone buy their baby blankets wholesale? If so, where from? I semi-researched a while back and they ended up costing more than the primark or supermarket blankets - does this mean they are better quality? (hope this doesn't open a can of worms again by asking that
)

My cousin works in a chemist and Ive asked her to ask her boss if i could sell nappy cakes? Ive only made on for OH sister but if there wa a demand i'd make more
My only problem is i made a 3 tier one (granted it was my 1st and didnt really shop around) but the whole thing roughly came to about 30quid?
i dont think people would spend that? Anyone who sells 3 tiers- how much for and how much would u make as a profit?

I have been in bed ill the last few days and have spent hours and hours on the Internet looking at loads and loads of sites pricing baby items wholesale and otherwise.
All the cakes I have made so far are one offs. This involves lots of time in town searching round shops, petrol, delivery charges if ordering online. It is nice for the customer that they are getting an individually designed cake but it is time consuming and can be expensive.
Part of me would like to be able to make perhaps a couple of designs in a couple of sizes and colours but this would mean buying more items in bulk and this is where I am am finding it hardI even finding packaging expensive, cake boxes, individual boxes, unless again you are prepared to buy in bulk
I have looked at Wholesale sites the last few days and the ones I have found which are to be honest not that great would mean buying large amounts and paying out more than I am prepared to do this early on in my cake making. Catch 22!!!!
I am selling cakes word of mouth, no website and no advertising (well apart from and odd leaflet I give people that buy them;)) all local and all collected from my home.
OK so my conclusion.......I stick to the way I have been making cakes up until now and be happy with it OR ................I bite the bullet, get someone to make me a website, advertise, sell outwith my local area and put a good bit of money into this.
Sorry if I have bored you all:o0 -
Hi Irlrip, Sorry you have been feeling poorly – hope you are on the mend now!
I am in exactly the same position as you! With the added problem of not having transport so I can’t even deliver the cakes.
I have had loads of interest from the girls who work in the shops where I buy stuff from but because I am unable to deliver, I don’t push it. (I live 12 miles from nearest town so can’t expect them to come and pick up)
Llke you, have trawled the internet for hours looking for wholesale stuff, but everything seems more expensive and the clothes are rubbish.
I havn’t even been able to find some double walled boxes big enough without being made up especially.
You say all your cakes are collected from home – do you have anywhere where you can show them?
I am lucky in that I have a spare bedroom that I work in, and a cupboard that is fitted with shelves just for my finished cakes. (I prefer to make them up and then try and sell them) The problem is I need somewhere downstairs to “show” them, and I don’t have anywhere. What do you do?0 -
I wrote a long reply to you Irlrip and my computer crashed
In summary - I hope you are feeling better , and so far as the wholesalers - I looked at some wholesalers and found them to be more expensive than local shops - when I saw the products from the wholesalers close up I also found the quality not to be that good, I think it depends who you are marketing your cakes for, I personally make cakes for my friends stall in a local market so I can't charge top prices so tend to use cheaper items, if I was to get an order in for a work's leaving present - I would probably charge 25% more but then use more expensive items..
This is my latest neutral 3 tier and the first one that I sold to one of my friends. A girl in her office was leaving but as it was only a small office they didn't have a big budget so wanted something cheap. It cost me £14.02 to make and the girl was really impressed with it.
It contained
31 x Nappies, 1 x Muslin Cloth, 1 x Blanket, 1 x Soft Toy, 1 x Pack of Pampers Wipes, 1 x Baby Vest, 3 x Socks, 1 x Comb/Brush Set, 1 x Johnson Baby Bath, 1 x Johnson Baby Lotion, 2 x Weaning Spoons, 2 x Wash Cloths0 -

As always i think everyones latest cakes are great. I couldn't believe the difference an orange ribbon made to the cake with the coloured soft toy (sorry i cant remember who posted it), but it looked great with the ribbon.
I got an order tonight for a £15 cake. I thought about doing a sleep one but think im going to do a "pram" style gift instead. The lady brought a 3 tier off me before so she is my first repeat "customer"Best wins in 2013 £200 and Mini iPad. 2014 no wins. 2015 2 nights 5* hotel with £300 vouchers plus £1150 Harrods gift card

i made cakes to sell in my local chemists and they coast me £11 - £12 each to make and i sold them for £20 then the chemists charged £29, i live in a small town where people are not prepared to spend a lot on these sorts of things where as if i were selling say in aberdeen the same cake might sell for £35+ but then it all depends on whats inside the cake, i just look at it from my point of view as in if i were going to buy a baby present for a friend how much would i be willing to spend and i think £25 would be my limit unless i was extremely close to the person. (maybe i'm just a tightwad tho lol) i think anything upwards of £30 would be for relatives so i'm broadening who my cakes would appeal to by keeping the costs and therefore the prices lower and i'm now making 1 and 2 tiers as well as prams, mini cakes, sock cupcakes, bouquets etc although none of the smaller stuff is worthwhile taking to the chemists as by the time they add their profit ontop it works out being quite expensive for what you get
i don't half waffle on lol.0 -
