Your bouquet looks gorgeous giggle :)

Ive been offered 40 blue nose bear teddy bears to buy off a friend (the ones from clinton cards she said). I asked if the label said suitable for birth. She said the label says please remove labels and tags before giving to a child under 3.....what do you guys think? would you use these? Im not sure they would be suitable??

  • Monk.Tulish - no I haven't. I find you need something very strong to stick to the silicone but haven't tried glue dots. I have tried them on washcloth bunnies to hold the pompoms on but they failed.

Megmoo - I only ever take 3 nappy cakes. Smaller things I take are sock cupcakes (both single and a few boxes of 4) and lollypops.

Giggle - love your bouquet - what were you worrying about, it looks fab

Mariagti - I don't really know, I'm not going to use anything unless it says suitable from birth just to make sure. Could you use them to make small children's gifts at all? I know this is frustrating everyone but I was looking (or spying!) on FB page of someone who lives in the same village as me and she uses all sorts and has been up and running a lot longer than me...

Hi Mariagti, I have spoken with Trading Standards about this issue and as long as you clearly advertise that the teddy bears are not suitable for children under 3 (unless the label says suitable from birth I always say from 3+) then you will be fine. The laws have changed so that all new soft toys must be suitable from birth but I guess there must be a huge amount of old ones still in circulation. Hope this is of some help to you.

  • Giggle - superb bouquet!

Natalie85 - sorry you were disappointed about your fair - if it's any consolation I have never sold a nappy cake at a fair - I just view them as advertising opportunities and I do usually get follow up orders. I did a fair on Fri 9th March and got 2 subsequent orders for 2 nappy cakes at £54 and £80 - so it was worth it in the end - hope it will be the same for you.

    Here's a few I've made recently:

  • Hi everyone ive decided to go full on into making and selling nappy and pamper cakes after seeing all these gorgeous creations on here. Basically looking for a bit of advice as to best ways to advertise and also whether you just bought a load of stock and started making them to show or whether you made one or two to show and wait to get the rest of the stuff when orders come in??? Also name wise how did you choose your company name?? Ive been selling other craft items now for almost 6months by the name Monk & Tulish is it a good idea to keep this and current fans/likes or get a name more suiting to the actual stuff ill now be doing?? Any advice would be fab x

  • I don't really advertise yet, just going to the fairs and getting my cards out. I got in a local paper once without trying because the editor was at a fair and was really taken aback and seen my name banded about Facebook on other people's selling pages. I print price lists at home and people often take those away with them. I'm relying on Facebook and the fairs really and things seem to working out at the moment taking into account I haven't done anything for months and as soon as I pick it up I've gotten busy again.

Choosing a name was hard as there are so many taken, I would possibly run off your existing name but start another FB page with 'nappy cakes' in the title so it comes up in search results. You can then point your existing likers in the direction of your new page.

I keep somethings that will always get used, muslin squares, feeding cloths, bib, socks etc. but buy everything else to order. Whilst I'm doing fairs I have one in each colour made up to sell either at the fairs or if someone asks for one and doesn't have any special requests. Hopefully one day I'll get to a point where I can buy wholesale but don't have the cash flow at the moment.

On another note - fingers crossed I may have an order for twins! I really hope so, I've offered a special price if she orders as I want to do one anyway. It's for a boy and a girl too so would make a great project and she's local. I really hope I get this one!
