Last minute - beautiful!
Zangels - I've done one round wedding towel cake for friends last year, I made mine on a pizza tray from 2 bath towels and 2 hand towels. I made one bath towel round and filled it with the items (I think I used, a bottle of dessert wine, a recipe book, packet of rice (they had a rice cooker on their gift list) chefs candle and one hand towel then the second tier was the second bath towel and hand towel and the third tier were face cloths. I have another one to do for friends and I'm having the towels personalised.
Janey - a wonderful idea that I would def be interested in. This is what I want to do, I'm due to go back to work in May and dreading it. I'm not niave to think that it could be my quick fix and I realise that it can take time. I have to disagree with Monk.Tulish as it's the business side I'm struggling with and I would quite happily stay all day if it meant I could get my head around that. It's times like this I wish I had studied business rather than Psychology! I think if people are serious about setting up business then they will too want to learn the serious stuff. I don't think my cakes are anywhere near as good as yours but I think I'm doing alright and have had 2 years of making them now and I can see how I've improved, so although a tutorial on putting one together would be wonderful, I wouldn't be there to play, I would be there to learn. To be honest I have no idea what I would pay but I'd have to take getting to Nottinghamshire into account which isn't impossible. Please keep me updated as I've just been paid my annual bonus so would put the money aside plus the company I work for has a leisure learning scheme so I may even be able to apply for the funding for a course anyway.Overdraft: [STRIKE]£529[/STRIKE] £199 BC: [STRIKE]£697.82[/STRIKE] £1974.02 MBNA: [STRIKE]£1874[/STRIKE] £517.00 -

Monk.Tulish wrote: »Its sounds like a good idea although I think its defo over priced by the other company you mention. I also think a whole day including lunch is too long in my opinion as Nappy Cakes is something I want to do to fit around the kids a whole day to learn trade secrets as you put it seems a bit over kill as the HMRC, wholesalers, trading standards etc can all be done in a booklet for people to take away to refer back to rather than taught and maybe just have a 30min session for anyone to ask any questions they want on those subjects. As for the making of a 3 tier cake its a fab idea and id happily pay £50 for a morning of learning and a booklet on all the previous info maybe you shouldnt supply the items though and simply list what people need to bring that way they can buy to their budget rather than having to pay extra for the course if you see my point.

Hi
Thank you for your feedback, the course I am thinking of doing however would be beneficial to someone who wanted to fit in making nappy cakes around the kids, I am talking about a comprehensive course for ladies who are thinking seriously about running a proper business from home.
I spent over 5 months sourcing wholesalers, choosing a web designer, business name, learning about distance selling, researching liability insurance for gift and craft fairs, Facebook for businesses, non of which can be discussed in a 30 minute session I'm afraid, and with regards to actually making a nappy cake again there are tricks to the trade that I would pass on during the training course, I would be including making wedding towel and pamper cakes, sock roses, cupcake baby socks and bouquets among other things so it would be a very full and busy day, my only worry would be fitting everything in.
I think a buffet lunch would be a nice touch, with tea and coffee available through the day.
I would provide products to make the nappy cakes as bringing your own products would be too time consuming, everyone would be making the same cake in the colour of their choice on the day......... hmmmmm lots to think about though so thanks for your imput...... Janey0 -

I really like your stall sweetpea, it looks inviting. The mini cakes at the front left look cute, are they a sponge?
Thanks for the advice on the wedding cake I need to start searching for towel wholesalers as pamper cakes and wedding cakes seem to be more popular for me than the nappy cakes.
Janey the course sounds great, I too would be more interested in the buisnes side than the making the cake side although taht would also be good. Its a shame its not nearer for me.Looking forward to new ventures :beer:0 -

Thank you. Do you mean the ones that are on the front right as we are looking at it? If so, then yes they are a sock cupcake sitting on a sponge. I didn't sell much, but I did sell one of those in pink!0 -

I would be really interested in coming - not sure how far away Nottingham is from me though - I am useless at Geography!
I think I have got the nappy cakes making sorted now, although I would always welcome tips as your cakes are stunning and would be interesting to see how others make them.
I would be really interested in the business side of things as I have registered with inland revenue etc, but I haven't got a clue what I am supposed to be doing as I haven't had any business training.
Let me know if you have any more developments on organising it.0 -

I didnt realise you would be going into so much detail about each aspect and therefore a day probably isnt long enough what about a weekend course they do lots by me in Edwinstowe and are really popular. As there seems so much info if it were me id need some breathing space to take it all in and let it sink in so maybe 1/2 day creating 1/2 day learning and the same the next day?? Would break it up nicely and not be so overwhelming with all the info and creating your planning on doing. As for pricing gosh I dont know how you would go about it where I am we have a large craft place that has shops, talks, workshops etc and the 2 day workshops are roughly £80 and include all the stuff you need but lunch you fend for yourself at the cafe in the craft centre. Have you thought about workshops instead??? That way people could pay for the bits they are interested in and want to learn rather than a whole course which bits might not be relevant to them? Best of luck and keep me posted very interested and im in Nottinghamshire myself so would be nice to see how you make your gorgeous cakes xProud mummy of two tiny terrorists0
