  • Hi everyone

I have now made and sold my 9th nappy cake(woo hoo....go me...!!!). My sales have been from friends and word of mouth but I was wondering if anyone had any tips on how to expand a bit. Obviously Im looking for a small steady flow of orders!

I really hadnt considered posting or anything like that was just thinking about raising my profile locally as there doesnt seem to be much competition.

    Any ideas/thoughts will be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance
    xx

    hi deborah...
congrats on the cake making, sounds like ur level pegging with me, im in the position of having alot of stock n ticking along with orders but want more so..ive decided to make a facebook page to promote amongst friends more and set up a little stall at a local craft fayre recently...although i havent had any direct sales from that yet, lots of people were asking if i had a leaflet or website. My friend owns a cake business and has put a nappy cake link on her website and am going to try putting some leaflets together this wkend.
Hope that gives you a few ideas...keep me posted on how u get on

Out of interest, I was just wondering how much profit you all make on each cake? I have bought some stock at really low prices and am just costing up my first cake and am just wondering what would be a reasonable profit margin?

    hi sweetpea...

i had a tough time with this initially...i found it really hard to charge anything above what i spent...on a one tier for example i was spending maybe £12 and charging 15. I spoke to a few people who encouraged me to charge more plus i have learnt ways to cut costs so im now charging £20 for approx £10 spent....you need to think about time you have spent buying and making as that should be costed into your profit...good luck :)

Poundland do packs of ducks if you are stuck, (i think qty 6), 1 each of yellow, blue, green, orange, yellow, purple.
They are plastic though not rubber.
I always use them on my bathtime cakes, nice bright colours.

    Oooops ....... 2 yellows ???? maybe a pack of 5 then :-)

Thanks lil-tinks1 for your support:j. I have considered making a facebook page and that definately seems the route to take. My husband sfriend also designs website and said he would do one for me as a favour. Im not sure if i am willing to down the route of posting as my budget is quite tight and i am restricted with time and feel i would be putting myself under pressure!! Do you post out?

Thanks again, will soon be able to post some pictures I think so you will be able to let me know what you think!!

    Happy baking

Just wondering what colour socks everyone uses for a neutral cake. I fancied mint or lemon but cant seem to find any. ~White are lovely but a bit of colour would make them stand out a bit more.
    Any suggestions? thanks in advance

I always use white socks no matter what colour the cake is. It means that I don't have to keep such a range of stock. HTH

Thanks xpf, think i am going to stick with white and maybe use some punched paper flowers to brighten the whiteness up a bit !!
