    Thanks Moonpenny!

That is the website I used, I put in 600mm tall which is probably why the price was different. Do you think I should order slightly taller ones i.e.700mm, as you were looking at? I've only done 2 tier cakes so far but I'm just wondering if maybe I should allow for 3 tier? ooh, there's so much to consider! It's a shame you can only order boxes in lots of 25 as that's rather a lot for me at the moment but there is nowhere i can find that sells single boxes in the size I need!

I'm so glad to have found a forum like this, it's been a blessing. Thank you everyone for sharing your wisdom! :j

I'm afraid, I can't advise you on sizes etc as I have never posted out so, like you am a novice with such things.

The 700 height I did was for a 3 Tier.

I know there are other older posts on here about boxes and I think a few of the girls have even cut bigger ones down to size but don't know how strong they would be.

I think some people use Royal Mail for the smaller ones but again can't be sure.

With a bit of luck someone might come on and help you out.

Liana I post all of the time, most of my orders are all throughout the UK. My boxes are 12x12x18 and they fit my 3 tier snuggly I have to fold over the top cello and the bow but it all stays together perfectly.

I am afraid you will struggle to get a half decent price unless you bulk buy. I bought my boxes from here their website can be a bit of a mare to navigate around but they are nice enough to talk to on the phone. I can't remember how much I paid for my boxes, but they worked out at a decent price each, although I did bulk buy!

I haven't posted in here for ages, moonpenny nice to see you

ETA: I use royal mail for smaller cakes and I use couriers for bigger ones!

Hello there Rusty! It was you I had in mind when I said someone mightbe able to offer more help.

I wondered before how you managed to use such small boxes (my cakes come to about 27 inches at top of cello) and I wondered if anyone folded the top over. Thanks for that!

    Are you still cake making?

    Helloooo :)

Yep I fold the tops over, keeps the teddies secure and held in place whilst in transit aswell :)

I am indeed still cake making, go through fits and starts in orders but it keeps me busy so I am happy enough! I did see someone else in my town making them and I enquired as a customer, the woman who owned the shop they were stocked in was the bakers aunt and she hates them, says they look cheap and messy, apparently she has been doing it 18 months and has never had any orders as someone else in my town makes them and gets all the orders from this other shop lol she meant me, which I guess is good but I didnt want to let slip that it was me lOL

    Are you busy with yours?

That made me laugh:rotfl: (about the shop) You have to be furtive to keep on top of the game.

There was someone in my town with a market stall and I went and asked a few questions. She's closed down now.

I hate it when someone says they are packing in - makes me think it's on the wane.

I just make mainly local but like you it's very hit and miss. Only seem to sell 3 Tiers and Luxury, which is good but can't shift the little ones.
  • Hi,
I have been making nappy cakes up for awhile now and am really enjoying it.
I have sold quite a few and people always comment on how nice and different they are.
I love all your cakes and your all so very talented :)
    Just a few quick questions,
Do any of you sell on ebay? and if so do they sell well?
Im also having trouble trying to make sock roses, the florist tape always seem to ruin the socks by pulling on the material when i take the tape off everytime i do them, is there another way of wrapping the socks into roses?
Any help would be great :)
    Thanks
    Becky

Hi Becky,i use the socks from asda to do the roses £2.75 for 5 pairs,i havnt had a problem using these for the roses.
I dont tell on ebay as there are so many people that do,its a huge competition,i sell through FB,word of mouth and my business cards that i dot around
  • Thank you hollie,
Do you still use the florist tape with the sock roses? because i've found it to be really sticky and quite tough to pull off.
