I am just collecting stock together to start making nappy cakes. I was just wondering what cellophane you all use. I can only find rolls of 80cm wide. Will this be big enough for a 3 tier cake?

Giggle - I've got the same problem but am looking for Pink Ducks. Or preferably Pink rabbits (for bathtime!) if you can get such things.

I havn't seen any blue or green ducks but will keep a look out. Do you want Blue/Green together on same Duck?

80 cm Cello will be just fine. Don't think you can get it any wider anyway!

Cut a length of cello and overlap the 2 edges so you have a "tube" and pop it over the cake. This method uses a lot less cello than any other way.

I use 11 inch boards and usually use about 1 metre.

Thanks Moonpenny, yes that makes sense now! Will order from Ebay as that's the cheapest place I have found too.

Out of interest, I was just wondering how much profit you all make on each cake? I have bought some stock at really low prices and am just costing up my first cake and am just wondering what would be a reasonable profit margin?

Moonpenny - sorry it's taken so long for me to reply, I haven't had time to get on the computer! I have ordered single wall boxes so hoping they'll be ok. They're still packed up in the garage so I've no idea what they're like but I have got two cakes to post tomorrow so we shall see....

On the subject of ducks, Matalan have several sets of ducks and small bath toys priced at about £3/4. They have a set of 5 small ducks in (i think) blue, green, yellow, orange and pink (if my memory serves me correctly!) these are £3 which I think is quite reasonable. They also have a set of pink ducks with a large 'mummy' duck and 2or3 babies with cute little rubber rings!! I bought these for my daughter a while back and they're lovely!

Thanks for the link for the couriers! I'm going to give Royal Mail a try this time and see how I get on. Luckily they are both for friends of a friend so I'll be able to get some feedback on what state they turned up in! Fingers crossed they survive!

I've been really enjoying making them although I find they take forever to make as I'm looking after the children inbetween! My eldest 'helped' me today and enjoyed making her very own nappy cake and even photographed it herself just like mummy does, it was very cute! I think I'll find it a lot easier to fulfill orders once she starts school in sept and I've only got the baby with me.
