  • Thanks Cupcake, It sounds as though we are both more or less at the same stage (apart from the fairs) although I will certainly be looking into taking my cakes to charity fairs or even carboots may be worth a try even if its just for the advertising.

    Thanks again :)
  • Hi s23xy_c!

When I haven't any big enough I just use more and band bundles together. Once you have wrapped them with your towel/blanket or whatever they then pull together and you can get a rounder shape.

    Hope that makes some sense

I use wool to hold tiers together prior to putting clothes/blankets around them and tying with ribbon. Seems to work well and is reusable! (So very MSE :D) Made a WtP one tonight which I am chuffed to beans with, bought the blanket in Tesco for £3 instead of £7, the clothes for £5 instead of £12 and found a Pooh for £1.99 so all in all have a very posh cake which hasn't cost me that much to make - result. Now just have to sell it, going to a ladies night Fri so fingers crossed!

  • Hi everyne, i have been reading this thread for quiet some time now, and have done a few minor nappy cakes, nothing extravigant like some of yours, you are all so talented.

I have decided that as there doesnt seem to be much in the way of nappy cakes in my area i would like to give it a go.

After a few experiments with different positioning i am going to opt to do my cakes slightly different to you girls - i am goinng to use a cupcake tower style stand - made at home with cardboard. I have just actually put 2 together i will try and add a picture - one is very large and i intend on doing this as my super luxury cake im thinking of having one layer for the mum and the top three layers for baby?
the other is a small 3 tier stand which i would just fill for baby i think - then i think i will crreate a larger three teir cake and a smaller 4 tier cake along with just your 2tiers. - My friend just found out she is expecting so im going to do the super deluxe for her and due to the size of it im gonna make an early start - shes not due till October so very early yet but that stand is gonna take some serious filling!!

I need a name and seriously can not think of any? any suggestions?

Sorry to crash your thread - altho reading teh posts i can see you are all lovely people and im sure you wont mind!! :o

Thanks in advance for any tips and advise. I hope we can become friends. Baby Baking 11 xx

    Hi!

I'd love to see a picture of that! Bet it will look amazing.

Took me ages to think of a name so can't help there! I just stuck a competition on my FB page to get people to give me ideas

Thanks Brudie - I have managed to get enough Burp Cloths to be going on with.

I am thinking about changing what I use on some cakes and I think Burp Cloths might be going "out of the window."

When you say you leave tags on everything - do you mean the fabric tags (washing instructions / size etc) or the paper tags that have the name of store and price on?

The only paper tag I leave on is the toy one.

I also take things out of packaging as it wouldn't look very nice displayed on a cake with loads of cardboard and in the wrong colours. I wrap dummies in cellophane if I split a pack (they are so expensive!)

It's "food for thought" though but, I have never seen any cakes on a website with things displayed on the outside in their packaging, especially US ones where they tend to have loads of stuff dripping off the cakes.

sorry the reply is late! Yes I leave all tags on - if it has the price on I cut the bit with the price off!! usuallly the price is on a rip off bit on most tags.

clarel thanks for the trading standards info very useful!

I have a fair coming up in a few weeks should be thinking of new ideas but instead am on here again.....:o Need something new to look at not sure what yet but I'll figure something out no doubt!
