im soo chuffed.. was out shopping and walked into a baby shop and thought id randomly ask if they would like to stock my cakes.. she was so excited and couldnt wait to see them.. told her id bring a couple back the next day and as i was passing a florist with them in my hand the owner came out and was amazed by them and asked if she could have one of each to put in her shop..
was so happy cant wait to go out again and see if i can stock them in a few more shops as business online isnt doing that great at the moment :j0 -

Really pretty cakes Bubble. Well done to you Staceylou that must be a good feeling, hope you do well from it :T
Just wondering if anyone could offer any advice. As I said a couple of months ago, having been made redundant a year ago from my job I decided back in July having had months of applying for posistions, to try and make a go of what was for me a hobby. Basically making Nappy cakes and such like. I felt quite optimistic as I had secured 3 retailers who said they would stock the nappy cakes, so on that basis I launched the business. However 2 of the 3 retailers then got cold feet on me (their actual words afting stringing me along for weeks were "i have decided if I am going to sell something I would rather sell my own things")
Anyway, I have been doing ok from some of the other smaller items but always seem to get the same response when I do parties or whatever regarding the nappy cakes "Oooh they are lovely I just wish I knew someone who was having a baby".
In view of the fact I have been let down by these other retailers I wondered what sort of shops other people have had luck in locally to them. My local florist already sells them. So far I have tried 2 gift type of shops, but the main problem seems to be how much they want to mark them up by. I have got a poster in the local takeaway (but the wall is covered with posters so dont hold out much hope!)
The pressure is really on as I have invested in stock and I have to make a go of this my family is depending on it.
Please can anyone suggest anywhere else I might try, dont want to tread on anyone's toes on here as you are all such a lovely bunch but I know once christmas is over I need to sell more on the nappy cake side of things. Thank you all for reading and apologies for the really long post!0 -

If I had a pound for everytime I heard 'oh, aren't they lovely, I wish I knew someone having a baby!' I wouldn't need to bother about making nappy cakes
Have you thought about doing a leaflet drop round your local houses or even popping into local playgroups, nurseries etc? Are there any local school fetes or craft fairs coming up in your area, these could be good for advertising and displaying your items0 -

Hi bubble16 great cakes.... what always puzzles me though when you wrap in cello, how do you get all the bits and pieces to stay in place.
I will let you know. Started the great cello wrap last night, it didn't go well! Got the yellow one done and looking presentable with the underneath, screw/fold edges and screw up top method, tried the same with the cow one and it didn't work! Then tried the tube method with the bright pink one and got it about right, am going to buy some book cover stuff as suggested by someone else on here to secure the bottom. All in all not looking forward to tomorrow night which is what I have set aside to cello wrap them so I can finally get them into the shop which has agreed to sell them for me.0
