One of my recent neutral cakes

This is a lovely cake, am I right in saying you have a flannel bunny and sock lollipop on it? I can't get it to englarge, great idea if so, have been debating doing some sock lollipops but hadn't thought to actually put them on a cake - doh!

Also, where did you get your elephant from and how much was he? Love him! :D

Bubble - The ellies are from Asda, but they no longer do them, despite several of us contacting asda and asking them to keep doing them! they are baby safe aswell so perfect for cakes!!

Beautiful cakes ffrom you all!! I haven't posted for so long on here but been so busy with orders etc!!

Just wanted to post a picture of one I have made this weekend for a lady off here. She asked to have dummies and teething rings on the cake which was different for me as I don't usually, but it looks fab!

Then this one I lifted up the dummies to show the towel.

Pictures aren't brilliant as light was rubbish!! ... got another order off a friend I went to school with as she saw this one I just posted on facebook, thank goodness I rolled extra nappies ready!

Rustyflange, that is a lovely cake - lovely Johnson's towel! Is there anything in the cake inbetween layers or is it just nappies? I have been putting a bottle or Johnsons product in the bottom layer but then run into trouble when trying to put anything in the next layer, it doesn't seem to work or balance.

Yes the elephant was from asda! Im sure you may be able to get a similar elephant from somewhere else, i will keep my eyes peeled.

Yes there is a flannel bunny and a sock lollypop. (i dont know how to post pics right!! this is the only way i can do it DOH)

If you want me to send you a bigger picture i can do.

I only thought to put them on after i had not got the right stuff to put on top and think it actually looks ok.

That cake is lovely Rusty :)

After putting a few photos of my nappy cake on facebook I already have one friend saying she doesn't know anyone at the moment who is pregnant, but would/could I post them, and another friend who says she has quite a few pregnant friends and she would be interested in buying cakes for them when the babies are born! I didn't think it would take off this quickly!!

So, a quick question to all you experienced 'bakers': I know you've probably answered many questiion like this before, but what would you charge (or suggest a newbie like me should charge) for basic 1, 2 and 3 tier cakes? Ovbiously cakes with more in or more expensive brands would be priced higher

The one I made for my friend cost me £24.95 (including cello, ribbon etc - I would bulk buy rather than buying one off bits from the card shop/florist next time) to make (it did include wine!). Woud you suggest a reasonable selling price of that particular one of £30? I want to pitch it right, not too expensive, but enough to turn this into a small income for me (Don't worry, I will registar as a business :) ). I've said I will put a list together of sizes/prices and get back to them but I can't get my head to think straight lol. Thanks in advance!

Thankyou :) there is a few things inside, there is johnsons bubble bath, johnsons shampoo, johnsons baby soap, there is also sleepsuits and vests tucked inside aswell. I found that if you make your bottom tier around the bottles (I used a couple of bands to keep my 2 bottles together) and then the next tier make it up without anything in, then remove the middle 1 or 2 nappies and then use something to put in the gaps, this could be either scrunched up paper, or fold up a bib/burping cloth etc and that will pad it out. Then the top tier sits just perfectly on the top :)

I only make £5 on each of my cakes, however because I bulk buy and always have items in stock then I also get things in sales. I still charge the same price for these cakes even if they have in sale items, because if they want another cake which I charged them say the price of £15 for because it was all sale items, then next time they will expect to pay the same price of £15 and will be put off if you then charge £25 for it.

Not sure what ingredients you had in your last cake, but my advice would be to work out everything at cost price, then add on something for your time. I keep all of my costings in a spreadsheet.

Also I post them, I bulk buy boxes and send via courier on 48-72 hour.

Hope that helps. If I can answer anything else please shout, I have been making cakes for nearly 2 years now and I am very busy nearly all of the time with them!

How long did it take you to make? I personally think £30 is cheap but it depends if you just want a bit of pocket money and enjoy doing them anyway or whether you want to make it a business. Work out your time, i.e if that took you a hour to make (obviously you will get faster with practice) then £5 to cover that is too cheap. Also think about things like shopping time, delivering etc. Do some research online and see what others are charging for similar cakes x
