I wanted to add something, but thought that post was quite long already! I'm quite lucky here as we have 2x Tesco, Sainsbury's, Morrisons, Asda, Adsa Living, 2x Lidl, Netto, B&M, Poundstretcher, Matalan, Wilkinsons, Matalan, 2x Card Warehouse/Factory (can't remember which one it is!), The Works, 3x Boots, Mothercare, TKMaxx, plus all the usual shops like Argos, M&S, BHS etc etc so it hopefully won't be too hard to find lots of ingredients :)
    Extra savings aim for 2020 £4,000 £0/£4,000

Those are gorgeous cakes Holly, I really, really hope that my first cake turns out at least half as good as yours and all the ones I've seen on here. I'm not fab at very crafty things and art etc, like card making and painting but I 'think' this is something I would be able to do :)

NatNat: We all moan that Lincoln is small without a lot of big name stores, but for a small city we have some good shops for bargains...just wish we had a HB though

to be honest i think b&m is so much better than HB,my nearest b&m is 25mins away and id rather travel there, they have so much more baby stuff than HB and i always find HB with have something in for a few weeks then u never see it again

  • Can anybody help/ give advice please?

I'm beginning to go mad with trying to make a baby sock rose. I can fold the sock fine but when it comes to the tape it never looks nice as i go from the sock to the wire. Any advice welcome..

    Thanks
    xx

Remember I said the reason why I'd joined this thread was because my friend's baby is due in November? Plenty of time to get bits together for a nappy cake....er, not exactly. Her hubby text me earlier to say she's having a surprise baby shower next Friday! I'd only got 3 things together, so me and DD2 nipped out to Matalan and got a blanket, socks, bootees etc then popped next door to Sainsbury's who handily had 1/3 off baby stuff so we got nappies, a bar of baby soap and some shampoo, then found a pack of 5 muslins for £5 in the next aisle, and 2 mini bottles of wine for £3. OH is out gigging tonight so I can have a go with the nappies. I think I might try swirling first (esp as I have no bands yet!) as it sounds like it uses less nappies and is quicker to do.

Just a couple of questions: where's the best place to get a teddy? (max £4)
This time I'll get a florist to wrap it (if I can find one who will!) so hopefully will get a pull bow from there too, but where do you usually buy your wide florist ribbon (for round the tiers)? Is it actually from a florist or can you buy it elsewhere? I don't want to chance it with ebay when I only have a week to get it done by!

Thanks in advance, and sorry for another long post :)

Hi,i get my florist ribbon from hobby craft its cheaper than ebay and more convenient.i hope u manage to get a florist to wrap it,i buy rolls of cellophane from ebay 100m by 80cm wide.
teddys i use are shining star bears there £2 from HB/B&M or £2.99 from toys r us,u can name a star with them aswell thats why i like them and all my customers think there fab.

i also swirl my nappies,i dont use a tin like some of the ladies on here never have TBh just used my hands find it quite easy TBH
good luck and would love to see a pic when its all done :D
