hi moonpenny. the lemon dotted one is gorgeous in real. the picture doesn't do it justice. the check one i also ahve in pink and they are so lovely and soft. i make them myself as i was never finding any decent blankets that are more square than oblong.

Well Done! making the blankets yourself. They are lovely!
I looked into this a while ago as I used to sew a lot, but couldn't find the right fabrics.
There are some fab USA sites, but I don't think there is much here. They all seem to be really gaudy colours (Fleece) and I want soft colours.

It doesn't work out any cheaper if you work on an avergae of £3 per blanket that you can buy in supermarkets and neither is it quicker. lol

i have to go and buy by the metre, measure, cut and sew. i dont hem them as i use an overlocker with bulk thread. but the end result, personally, for me I think is worth it. it allows me to make my cakes with that individual touch and i also get to have more of an arrangements of colours.

I can also make small comfort blankets to match the larger one and now have the free use of an embroidery machine to personalise these.

the only downside is that I could do with a 36 hours day....

I know what you mean, I am bursting out of my spare room, I do have rather a lot of stock though!! I have posted 3 cakes, all small ones. I haven't actually bought any boxes, I have recycled ones from deliveries. I have had a look online and found a few companies that sell new ones, they all seem to be about £1 a box for double walled and that's if you buy multiples so I am trying to get by without doing that for a minute. Have you got any local businesses that you could ask for boxes from? Most businesses have to pay to get rid of waste so they will probably be glad of you taking them. As long as they are fairly plain I don't see it as a problem. I cover mine in fragile tape anyway!!
