Moneysaverlou: Thank you for the link to the page with how to make the pram on it, I will definetly give it a go tomorrow night, I went out and got some supplies from Matalan.
Everyone: How does everyone get their Nappy Cakes / Gifts wrapped? I have been looking at buying some Cellophane but wondered what size I would need to get it all gathered at the top? Or do you take them to places shuch as Florists to wrap them?
Thank You All for your help this forum has been great in helping me get started making one.

LOL
Sorry for ranting, I've just made my first nappy cake (have always done towel cakes up until now) and I'm so not happy with it, but I don't know why.
I thought they would look quite big, but this one doesn't look that big at all??
I've used 44 nappies, 3 x feeding cloths, 2 x baby vests, 1 x pair of baby nail scissors, 2 x dummies, 1 x teething rattle, 1 x cutlery set, 1 x pair of bootees (elephant wearing them) lol.

Hi Sal,
Hope you don't mind me posting about your cake, I think it looks beautiful but I think the teddy is slightly too big? how many nappies are in your top tier? are they swirled or rolled? You could try making the bottom and top tier slightly bigger to accomodate the teddy and put it all into proportion? Or you could use a smaller teddy?
Hope you don't think I am being rude, Love everything you have made, the baby basket is absolutely beautiful!! xRaising kids is like being held hostage by midget terrorists0 -
Hi Sally
I agree with Rusty, the elephant is lovely but looks a little large, I think the problem maybe that your tiers are slightly out of proportion? The bottom tier needs a few taking out and then bulk out your second tier so that the elephant can sit comfortably on topThat should sort out the cake and it will look fab then & I'm sure you will get lots of orders
I love your other items - they are brill!

Morning Carly and Rusty
Of course I don't mind you posting, I needed the advice! lol
There's 44 nappies altogether, I think there was about 14 nappies on top?
I rolled each one, maybe I rolled them too tight??
I have a smaller toy which I'll try on top, (cos I secretly quite like the elephant! LOL)

Poppy do take one or two of your cakes to a florist......they may stock them for you:p!! also they may give you some tips on how to wrap them;) one of the florists i took my cakes to was so impressed she started the ball rolling for me by getting me into a craft fair....Im doing 3 next week:eek:!! She also gets me my ribbons and cello for cost price around £12 for 100mx80cm please bear in mind tho that some florists may not be interested so i reccommend you take a cake in and ask how much they would charge to wrap it for you as your best friend has just had a baby!! Im sneaky tho;):jIm going to be frugal:j:DIm going to be frugal:D;)Im going to be frugal;)Beetlejuice Beetlejuice...................:rotfl:0 -

I love your cake very neat, however i do agree the top tie is a little to small for the ellephant. Perhaps you haeroled the nappies to tight, i only use about 25 nappies on my 3 tier but 4-5 more if its pampers!

Morning Jo Jo
Thanks for posting, it's much appreciated.
I think you might be right in saying I have rolled the nappies too tight.
Can you tell me large your nappy cakes are roughly if you only use 25 on a 3 tier? I mean what's the circumference roughly of the tiers?? How many nappies for each tier please?

I agree i think the teddy is too big the ones I have seen all seem to have a small toy on the top if that makes sense. Other than that it looks lovely and I am envious I would love to make one and am thinking about doing one for a friend who is due in May. Kate :hello:0 -
Sally to give you an idea of size I use a 10 inch cake board and the bottom tier fills that slightly overhanging with the blanket on, if I use 20 on the bottom tier I will use about 10-12 on the next tier and so on.
44 nappies is quite a lot for the size of the cake so your nappies must be rolled really quite tightly, try loosening them a little, then even them out between the tiers. Hope that works for you
Danielle, I always wrap my own I think most of us do, keeps costs down
The cello I order from a wholesaler along with the florist ribbon. Wrapping is the worst job I hate it!
Our local florist wasn't interested! Order a small amount on ebay first then have a go yourself. Good luck
