Sunshine12 wrote: »Thanks for this (I think) although not quite sure why you have written it in a manner which is extremely defensive particularly given that you have stated you have no issue with using disposables and therefore presumably shouldnt have to justify it to me or anyone else. As I stated if you had read my post, I wasnt having a go at anyone, just wondered what thoughts were on the subject.
I do not have to justify the fact and neither does anybody else particularly to you!
I was merely giving you my 'thoughts on the subject'. As I found your original post quite patronising I felt the need to comment.
You will find from my other posts that I am not by nature an argumentative person at all, but to post a comment regarding a product which we choose to use in our gifts, a product that over 80% of new mums and dads choose to use, to ask if the environmental factors are something that we even consider before purchasing I found to be an unnecessary comment.
Anyway if you are going to attempt to make a nappy cake you will be able to find lots of useful, information on this thread. Everyone is very friendly and I have always found polite and helpful. :cool:Proud mummy to 3 beautiful boys!0 -

Brudie25 and carlymummy – you make me feel stressed just reading what you are both doing, what with fairs and supplying shops!:eek::eek:
I don’t do any of that and at the moment am quite happy to go along in “fits and starts” Mind you, have had pretty hectic week myself.
Been asked today if I could make up a “environmentally friendly” cake with real nappies etc. Said I would look into the cost but not sure!
Don’t know if it would mean “green” clothing as well as toiletries etc. and what about the cello wrapping etc? Would mean a whole load of new “supplies” to get.
What do you all think?
Wow! Carlymummy !6 orders for Towel Cakes. Really Well Done! :T
Am going to have a look at your site now.0 -
Lovely site Carlymummy - I especiall like your "Shabby Chic" invites. I love anything Shabby Chic!
Where do you get your Towels from for your gorgeous Pamper cakes?0 -
Moonpenny,
It depends entirely on what "real" nappies the parents would want to use but none are cheap! For most of the shaped all in one type nappies you would be looking at appx £5-£10 per nappy at wholesale price. I would suggest using eco disposables as an alternative? A lot of parents who will be using "real" nappies will often start off for the first week or so by using eco disposables.
Carlymummy
I don't think anyone has to justify their choices for their children to anyone. The facts are out there and it is for individuals to make the choices they feel comfortable with. As an aside to that though I will say the report that you're quoting from the environment agency is out of date. Their latest report indeed states that they now accept their original trial was based on old fashioned washing and drying techniques which is not the case. They now do say there is a 40% reduction in carbon emmissions for using real nappies as against disposables but that would be higher if the nappies were to be reused for more than 1 child. Just thought I'd set the record straight incase anyone has any enquiries about real nappies.0 -
Thanks for that Becs! I don't really want to go down the "real" Nappy route - like you said, it is so expensive. Also, I didn't consider all the different varieties you can get now.
The eco disposables are a good idea but I don't think she wanted them.
Actually, If it was me, I would want to choose exactly the right type of nappy if I was laying out that sort of money, so not really a good idea!0 -
