On the cello front, do you use the "tube" method?
Dopey Dora, gorgeous cakes. I did a towel cake recently and it turned out ok! Well done.
tube method? whats that? I wouldnt really say I use a method - its very unique how i do it - prbably whey it never goes as I hope lol!!!0 -
Gorgeous cakes Dopey_Dora!!! Currently in the process of making a Wedding Cake myself - hope it looks as lovely as yours!!
Just quickly popping on for a bit of advice please - have just had my first order that needs delivering - EEEK!! Where would be the best place to get a box & how is it best to send it - courier companies? A friend of mine mentioned that her BIL used to use a company who you arrange to come and pick it up & they supply the box & everything?!!! Not sure about that myself! Any advice is much appreciated - its for a 3 tier cake - don't want to lose the sale just cos I can't work out how to send it!!
TTFN x
Popkins, I send all my orders via www.payperparcel.com and it's £7.92 and usually delivered within 48 hours. Boxes...well. My hubby has to adapt mine. What's the diamensions of your cake? My boxes (after being adapted) measure H=22" W=11" D 12". I wish I could buy boxes this size for a reasonable price!! x"There are no pockets in a shroud..."0 -

I think it was Bellag who came up with it.(?) Instead of trying to wrap it by gathering up the corners, you make a tube of cellophane that wraps around the cake. I personally lie my cake flat face down on the cello and measure how much I need by wrapping the cello around the cake and cutting it. Tape the bottom up and then pick the cake up and arrange it back if any of the things have come out of place...
Aghh, I'm not really explaining well am I lol...where's Bella!"There are no pockets in a shroud..."0 -
Yes it was Bellag who did and does the tube method. I now use it too as use a lot less cello and is relatively easy!
I always stand my cake on the worktop and losely hold the cello round it to measure then cut. I then tape the two edges together so you now have the tube. Slide this over the top of the cake and then I pick the cake up and pull the tube down slightly below the board, this is the tricky bit! Then you basically have to tape the tube under the cake board, the easiest way I do this if Hubby isn't around to help, is to have it half hanging over the edge of the worktop and keep turning and taping until secure enough to lift up by the top and tape any scruffy bits.0 -
Hi all, Yes the tube method is the way to go. I did it exactly as explained above. It was my first time doing it and I thought it would be a right old caffuffle but it was surprisingly easy. And the best bit is it uses a lot less cello so saves a bit money as well. One thing I did make a point of though was telling the buyer that they would have to deffo hold the bottom of the cake when carrying it from A to B. I have visions of the cake falling through the bottom into a heap on the floor, not good!!! The under cake method is deffo foolproof for falling to bits but as long as the folk know to hold the bottom as well as top when tube method has been used, I will use that. I used that much tape the cake wouldnt fall through the bottom, but you dont want to take the chance do you!!!0

It is a fab way of wrapping. I am so thankful to Bellag for sharing it!! Like others have said, it cuts down on the amount of cello you use and it looks a lot neater."There are no pockets in a shroud..."0
