Declaring for June at £361.42 :j

Mrs M please can you put me down for £425 for July?

A bit higher as it's a 5 week month for me and all the kids finish for the summer holidays part way through the month  I'm hoping that I'll be able to manage it better than the Easter holidays when it all went to pot

See you all on the new thread

I found out a few months ago that we spending around £500 a month on groceries:eek:
Have since managed to cut that down to around £250 or less :j
Still trying to cut down so picking up lots of tips on here ,thanks :)

Well done on halving your spends :T how many people were you feed on £500?

I didn't do to much damage at MrT's £26.03p, the only thing I should need later in the week is some more milk, fruit & veg and pasta. They have also got some nice chesse on offer so I might pick up a couple of more packs of that as well. Got a chicken in the SC, it's the first time I have cooked one in the SC, I just hope it turns out ok, we are going to have some of it with salad, new pots and pitta bread tonight. While I was at MrT's there was a couple of reduced lamb shoulders but not reduced enough for me to buy one, I might pop back if it stops raining later and see if they have been reduced more:rolleyes: I love shoulder of lamb.

Just thought I would pop in and show some support for everyone. The grocery challenge is great, I'm thoroughly enjoying trying to keep on target, despite being way over the half yearly mark on my overall annual budget. Home grown veggies will make an amazing difference to spends, I hope, and I'm now starting to see edible 'stuff' in the hedgerows. Last night, we tried elderflower fritters and today, I'm going to make elderflower pancakes with the remainder of the sweet batter thickened using self-raising [STRIKE]flower[/STRIKE] flour :o. I guess you could pretty much add the flowers to anything. Elderflower champagne my next frugal food attempt, I just need strong bottles. :)

Hope everyone is enjoying the summer sun and preparing for next week's heatwave, if it arrives.

How were the elderflower fritters? I keep meaning to pick some to try this.

Today was meant to be a NSD :o but I just popped into Mr M on the way back from the tip and ended up spending another £9.11 on loads of whoopsied bread products for the freezer. Only bought one non-whoopsied loaf of bread. Even the compost was reduced to £1.50 per bag so it wasn't so bad after all.

Been to Mr T (via L!dl and Mr A!) today - and the stores weren't as busy as I'd feared for a weekend, so I think the nice weather is keeping people at home or sending them off for a day out instead.

Checked the marrow prices and size in L!dl, with a view to seeing how they compared to the ones showing on the web for Mr T and going back to L!dl - which is just up the road from home - if they had the better deal. Mr T 7p more but a lot bigger - I would have needed 3 from L!dl at £1.49 each, but only needed 2 from Mr T at £1.56 each. But I did pick up a cucumber from there (at 34p it's less than half the price of Mr T, and no nasty plastic wrapper either).

DS wanted to try some pop from Mr A (hence the stop there as it's on the same retail park as Mr T), but they didn't have either of the ones he wanted on the shelves  Did pick up the shallots I needed (cheaper than Mr T per kg, and closer to the amount I wanted instead of a fair bit under or over due to pack sizes). Also picked up some chocolate sprinkles as DS likes these on his ice-cream, but noted that the shelf tickets showed them as being bigger packs than they are with the correct price - which means the p/100g is totally wrong. After paying I nipped over to customer services to warn them (I know they can get done for mis-representation), and the lady refunded me the 60p I'd paid for mine as a 'thankyou' :T So total food spend here of £4.40 and free sprinkles for DS :)

Then on to Mr T. Totted up while wandering around, knocking stock-pile things off my list as I went as DD had texted me a list of almost £7 to get for her ;) I made my total £30.69, which meant enough for using my Mr M voucher, but when the lass hit the total button it came in at £29.70  So I grabbed a carton of long-life soya milk out of my bag and asked her to ring through another of those, and said I'd nip back and grab it while she served the next lady (but the cashier who'd appeared to take over went and grabbed it for me instead :) ). Just been through my receipt to work out where I went wrong, and it appears she only scanned one bag of 99p sausages - meaning I got my expected total right but ended up with a free bag of bangers..... My spend in Mr T came to £23.47 from which I deduct the voucher, meaning £18.47

So a total grocery spend today of £23.21, giving me £34.73 for the next 2 days - and I shouldn't need anything apart from milk (which will be under £1.50).

And to think I stated at the start of the month that I expected to come in well over budget due to the Mr M vouchers :rolleyes2 But the only reason I haven't is 'cos DD has given me a list that covered a good percentage of the £30 required spend each week :) And I get to benefit from the full voucher value, as I paid for the papers and the fuel in the car to go and do the shopping ;)

Hi I'm a newbie and a bit confused  - should I start the challenge from 1st July when I get paid or from today as I've just bought some food from MrT?

You can decide for yourself when to start :)

I doubt ANY of us came into our first GC with no food in the house, so just treat anything you need to buy before payday as store cupboard items if you want (ie. not included in your spending for the challenge)
