Hello All, To my shame I spend £170.94 in June (should have been £120!!)

    Must do better!

Mrs Mc Please can you put down for £150 in July (5 week month!).

Can anyone advise me on whether £30 a week is good for two people? Is it too tight? Do-able? Easy?? I just have no idea! Sometimes I can do it & other times really really not!

I'm a smidgeon over budget after a Sainsbugs delivery early in the month and a £30 shop in MrM yesterday. But I have full freezer and cupboards and nothing else to buy this month. I really need to do a new inventory of freezer and cupboards as I've lost track and getting a new (smaller) freezer next month so I need to get myself sorted (although I have a sneaky suspicion that the old chest one may stay in the porch :D)

Congrats to those who managed to achieve target this month and commiserations to those who didnt, remember July is a squeaky new month! ;)

MrsMc sending positive thoughts to you and your family.

    Thank you :D

It has been a very long, very hard slog. We still have a little to go and seem to be getting nowhere fast at the moment (it doesn't help with me spending too much on shopping and MOT costing a ridiculous amount!)......but we will get there someday:)

Really depends on what you eat I guess. I'm not fussy about my meat etc. (would love to go all organic - or at least free range - but can't afford to. For two adults (well, me and DS who is 18 next month) my food budget is £25.20, and my cleaning and toiletries is £2.80 - so a total of £28.00/week.

No home-grown produce to help out, but as I've said before our meals can be very heavly based around Whoopsie buys. Guess I'm "lucky" there, 'cos (since I was made redundant last November) I have the time to go shopping at the best times for regular mark-downs - and have been known to hit the shops within walking distance 3 times in one day to monitor what they're knocking down ;) I don't buy any alcohol either - not something I'm bothered about, and DS has sworn off it after seeing the state my DH used to get into (he was at least a border-line alcoholic, though he'd never have admitted it)

Thanks cw18. I should have said I'm a vegetarian, OH isn't but eats mainly veggie at home. I do get him a chicken in breadcrumbs type thing sometimes to have when I'm at work late. I favour the pretend meat stuff but have been trying to use more lentils & beans as it's cheaper. I try & bulk cook too but don't always manage it & I never seem to have enough room in the freezer! In last three months I might have bought two bottles of wine for less than £4 as we aren't big drinkers & we don't smoke.

I think £30 a week should be doable?

  • Well i've just done my first shop for July and it came to £64.95. My budget for the month is based on spending £65 per week for 5 weeks (this is my first month but I've guessed we normally do £75-80 per week) so within budget but i obviously can't spend anymore for a week. The problem is my DS is so full of energy (he's 1 and has just learned he can move independently) that on the days he's not in nursery i go out with him in the pushchair for an hour just for a break and a trip to the swings! Unfortunately this normally involves a stop off at Tescos for a diet coke and any 'bargains' i spot . But my wallet has been in DPs car for two days so I've unintentionally had two NSDs. I'd recommend the trick to anyone who has trouble controlling the silly little spending :rotfl:

    Afternoon all

Just a quick update as we have thunderstorms brewing and it's gone really dark here, as we live in rural area we may lose electricity. Have done shopping for next week and done a meal plan so although have spent a reasonable amount of money have plenty of storecupboard food and now starting to stock up freezer.

Keep safe and well everyone, have a good weekend.

Not sure where my calculations went wrong, but to date I have spent €232 of my June budget of €290, so €58 left until 30th...will probably go up to my full amount as with DD4 moving out in the next few weeks I will try to get a small store cupboard together for her....we did her complete budget this morning and reckon that she will have about €1 over per month after everything has been paid for....so not declaring for June yet.

Mrs MC...setting myself up for €290 again for July...will have to revise totally in either August or September so will try to stick with the same for now.

    Good luck to all
