    Hi
Please can I join? I have been lurking for ages and just plucked up courage to jump in!

I have been trying to stick to £50 pw for 2 adults, 2 children and 2 meows, all food and cleaning materials but not booze - that is paid for separately. It hasn't gone too well so I would like to go for £250 for July please.

    Many thanks

    Hi everyone,

A NSD for me today. Just wanted to share that we had River Cobbler for tea tonight - £2 for 325g (ie. two decent sized pieces) in MrT. They were lightly dusted with crumb. Absolutely delish and not a bad price - and not whoopsied :rotfl:. We had this with broad beans from the garden, cauli (both of these steamed) and a side salad. Really filling. Never tried it before but would definitely get it again.

  • I really need to do this; I know I spend too much because I don't keep track of it. My husband and I both eat low-carb which is expensive if you don't plan well, my kids are both at the hungrey stage, particularly my teenage son, and I'm always short of time so I don't do enough planning.

I'd be really interested in knowing what people do spend on food for a four-adult family (with two cats!).

I budget £1.80 a day per adult for food and drink - but don't buy any alcohol (unless it's a present for someone, which means a different budget). We don't have any home-grown produce to eke things out, but do rely heavily on Whoopsie (clearance) items - especially meat - and use the cheapest mince and sausages I can get (Mr T frozen value) on a regular basis. I do, however, combine the mince with rehydrated dried soya mince - which means the end result is higher fibre/lower fat than it would otherwise be, and DS doesn't yet seem to have noticed ;)

If you do a search for Grocery Budgets you'll find a thread that will help. Tried posting the link but it won't work  Maybe someone else can oblige?
