Right - decided to do the big shop at Sainsburys as I was saving about £10 on various deals ending today but that needed picking up soon anyway.

Spent today - £58.08 - saved almost £16 on offers and yellow stickers.

Total spend so far is £154.82, with £125.18 left to get us to the 28th - might be tight but we should do it.

    Hi grocery challengers :)

As usual, I'm way behind with my MSE reading so I'll just say hello to everyone and please accept my apologies for never being able to keep up.

My grocery spending has reached an almighty £698.45 for the year to date, which averages just under £140 per month. I MUST get this down or my £1,200 is never going to see me through to the end of the year. Hoping the good weather helps along the potatoes & veggies in the garden but prices are still climbing in the supermarkets and it isn't looking good. My regular £10 top-up shops are creeping ever closer to £20 and when there's meat involved, it's closer to £30! Have made a conscious decision to include eggs in the daily diet to help reduce the need for meat. 5 hens laying now, so no excuses for running out of them.

Hope everyone is doing OK - this challenge gets tougher by the month if you're on a low budget but it does promote a healthier diet if you're supplementing with homegrown or cooking from scratch :)
I reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.

    Hi All,

Just caught up on reading posts. Good luck to all this month.

Did a huge shop yesterday, after spending Sunday doing a menu plan to keep me on track this month. Spent £85.70 at Asda and 23.56 at Makro.
Hopefully I will only need to buy fresh fruit & veggies and milk for rest of month (have decided will make bread this month as I have all ingredients in storecupboard)

If I can keep the top up shops to £10 or less we may be lucky to hit the target.

I've had a NSD so really pleased, I really could do with getting some more garlic as I've run out, but as I'm trying to stay clear of the shops - I'm going to add it to my veg box order that comes on Friday, so I should have more NSDs this week, fingers (&toes) crossed, it's courgette soup for tea tomorrow, need to make some more buns, todays batch will be used up in packed lunches!

I'm trying to think if there is anything that I need before Friday....just had a look at food plan, there is nothing I need until Saturday and that's for Sunday's dinner, so I need to go to the butchers to get a chicken. I need some potatoes and as I order the seasonal veg box they don't have them in - but there's a shop up the street that has started to sell 25kg of potatoes for 5.99, so OH has said he'll carry one down at the weekend, so far so good. :j

    Good luck to all!!!!

    Hi everyone

Forgot last night, when doing kids' lunchboxes, that I would need lunch myself to day too. Had to buy lunch in town. Kept it down to £1.99, though, so could have been worse. Pot of goldfish food flakes finally ran out this morning too, so had to buy a new one of those. Bigger pot much better value and will last months, I hope, so £2.51 not too bad.

Did really well on the online order for Mr T - just under £30, and should be less when it actually arrives tomorrow because of the BOGOFs. Will add it in tomorrow when I have the final figure.

Keep going, everyone! We can do it!

Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)

Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

I realised today that I was down to one onion & nearly out of eggs too. So I popped down to Mr T, but I was very good and just bought those two items. :DI am still nearly £20 ahead of where I was at this point last month & I shouldn’t need anything else this week. Well, except maybe milk.

I’ve mentioned before the challenges I have with DD’s pack-ups, as she doesn’t like sandwiches or similar. Was browsing today & www.eatwell.gov.uk has eight weeks of lunchbox menus for age 9-12 (four weeks for 5-8) with nutritional information & average costs. So will have a closer read & maybe try some of the non-bread ones out.

Mr T has just delivered - £75.39.........but I got a coupon on MSE for 750 extra points, which equates to £30 in clubcard deals :D

I bought milk this morning too, for breakfast, which was £1.39, so my total spend so far is £76.78.
