42, Senior community nurse in NHS, 39K plus final salary pension. Mileage paid doesn't cover my expenses so i'm effectively subsidising the NHS. Lots of stress and hassle not worth the money but i can't afford a change of career.

I get £93 incapacity and £81 from a lodger (rent-a-room scheme). I have a little business I do at home from which I make about £20 (averaged out over the year). I also make about £1,000 a year doing various freelance work. So I live on £11k.

I have a savings that make about £40 a week in interest, but I never draw it; I let it accumulate, so it cannot be counted as part of my income as such.

If I had not been medically retired from my career I would now be on a basic of £28k, plus lots of opportunities for overtime, PLUS all kinds of perks and benefits, free clothing, pension etc.

29 yr old Archaeologist, at project supervisor scale earn £17,800 (approx) per year. No benefits with my job apart from standard 20 days hol and sick pay.

The basic grade for other arch's is about £13k a year.... pretty rubbish for a skilled and proffessional job!!

To be fair, it hardly stimulates the economy does it?
