The richest person I know is a vet. The family home is designer built and in landscaped grounds; the kids are all at v.expensive private schools, and they have some fabulous cars. The trick is to own and run your own surgery and not be an employee, making money for someone else. If I had my time again, that's the profession I would choose.
I'm struck by the number of people in public service here (me included) on the standard £21K, 30 days leave, plus Bank Hols, plus flexi, plus pension. Who is actually making money for the country to pay our wages? It does worry me a bit....
I'm a vet and I'm on 22k, no perks (not unless you count working a 90 hour week). I'm 5years qualified too.0 -

Whereabouts in the country are you, MLP? My friend is a vet in Derby and she earns more than double that for a four day week.0 -

Go work in the City for much more than that. I used to. I'm probably too old now but if you need a few pointers, I don't mind helping. On contract after first "get to know the job" contract, £1500+ per week, near zero tax.
No crap, not an agent, just an ex investment banker who decided to take quality of life over money and then had a few problems along the way. Now looking for a job for himself !0
